Hey guys, I just got my 510 today in the mail, and I have been vaping and expirimenting all day. One thing I notice tho is the more I vape on a cartridge the more it make me cough. If I drip then I get about 5-6 completely smoooth drags before it starts making my throat itchy scratchy again and starts making me cough. Do you think my atty is too dry? I usually use a cart and put a drop or two on the atty as well. Its not like a throat hit making me cough (actually Im using 6mg juice so theres very little th to begin with).

But it gives me a tickle, doesnt taste bad at all nor is my vaper production slowing down, I am really impressed by how many nice drags I can take and still get good vaper. I usually draw into my mouth, then inhale - like I used to do with cigs. Any comments on what it might be? Or is it normal to have a harsher vape as the atty wicks from the cart?

I tested it too btw, dripped.. it was smooth. 5 drags later it was making me cough a lil, dripped another drop... smooth again. ??

Sorry for the long post too..

The highest Ive vaped today is 24 mg, but I will vape a 6mg juice and it does the same thing.. I have noticed though if I take out the cart filling and just drip and use an empty cart it stays smooth a lot longer. So maybe Im reacting negatively to the taste as it comes thru the filling, or maybe some of the filling is touching the atomizer and burning? I am not sure.. vaping my 6mg candy cane from SEJ atm using the drip method and loving it to death.. my mouth feels like I was just sucking on a candy cane LOL :D

NICE! i never herd of the candy cane... well i now i need to go order some
and as for your PV
it could be a couple of things....
you just may be sensitive to large abounts of vapor and that explains when you put the cart on a dripped atty then its smother.... as for me.. if i vaped a 24 mg then i would hack up a storm i mean the "high" that comes with all my kits is like really strong for me...
i don
when i drink a ton of MTN dew then it tingles for me
could be the food that you ate prior to your vaping ness
just sayen
sorry for the spelling im only 12 years old

lmao thats funny I have been drinking mt dew all night o_O

Maybe thats it! LOL Im pretty happy doing a drip with no filling for the time being though.. and I have to order more candy cane too, I only got the 3ml sample bottle and I have a feeling its gonna be gone really soon! I got a lot of different flavors from 3 different places to try out though, searching for that good all day vape, but I have liked every single one I got. Not all could be vaped for long periods of time but they are tasty and good for after dinner, etc (pineapple, pina colada, caramel apple).

you know what my all day vape is..... with mtndew about 20%-30% "555" and 80-70% "menthol" its not bad. that other thing i could vape all day was watermellon. not a whole lot of flavor, but if you go 20 min with ought vaping then youil notice the flavor come in again. try either one of those... i dont drip whats the difference? im using my 801 right now.

Different kins of juice eventually make me hack so it could be what you are vaping.

When the carts dry out they do get harsher to me by a good bit. Thats how I know it's time to rejuice. This sounds like what you are experiencing.

Eventually you will probably want to do a cart mod. The easiest is the blue foam. There are a couple of others but you probably need to get past some of the learning curve so you know whats happening if it doesn't work right.

I'm no expert, but this is what I think:

[...] the more I vape on a cartridge the more it make me cough. [...]

If you are a heavy vaper (like me) the stock filler in an unmodified cartridge doesn't "wick" the juice towards the atomizer end of the cartridge fast enough to keep it from getting dry. Dry filler gets scorched by the atomizer, and you can taste it. A light vaper like my wife does just fine with a paperclip/plug cartridge mod.

[...] If I drip then I get about 5-6 completely smoooth drags before it starts making my throat itchy scratchy again and starts making me cough. Do you think my atty is too dry? [...]

Yep. After you drip a couple of drops directly on the atomizer, 5 or 6 vapes later it is dry and needs another drip. When I say "a drip", I mean 2 or 3 drops. You'll probably only need 2 for your 510. That's part of the "learning curve" people are talking about.

If you are a heavy vaper, but don't want to do cartridge modifications, then you may be happier if you just drip exclusively. I consider every couple of minutes to be "heavy", and once or twice per hour to be "light". I'm a heavy vaper, and I drip. If you drip, make sure to remove the filler from the cartridge if you're just using it as a mouthpiece, so it doesn't get scorched. You can also modify it so that you can drip directly through the cartridge by cutting/drilling the bottom out of the reservoir, but that's another subject :).

[...] is it normal to have a harsher vape as the atty wicks from the cart? [...]

As I mentioned above: Dry filler against a hot atomizer gets scorched, tastes scorched, and gives a harsh, foul-tasting vape.

[...] I tested it too btw, dripped.. it was smooth. [...]

Sounds like you're going to be a dripper. :)

[...] 5 drags later it was making me cough a lil, dripped another drop... smooth again. ?? [...]

Yep. Needs another drip. Try to notice the difference in the taste and vapor production right before it starts to taste bad. That way, you can learn to anticipate when it needs another drip before you get a foul taste in your mouth. A lot of times it will give off more vapor, and less flavor, just before it's dry. That's another part of the learning curve.

Good luck.

quasimod's got it spot-on, I think. it was a two-week learning curve for me to keep the attys juiced without burning them and getting nasty burnt smokiness (or flooding them).

other ideas....
Quitting/reducing smokes can also you hack up a lot ... just your lungs clearing out now that they've got a rest!
Vaping is also much more dehydrating than smoking IME, so drink lots of water...dryness can make your throat tickle.

Thanks for all the great info, I do tend to be a heavy vaper, as soon as I got my PV I quit smoking, havent really wanted one since. So Ill prolly have to resort to dripping every few minutes, which isnt that big of a deal.

I am really interested in cart mods. I wanna try the PTB mod, maybe that will solve my problem and let me use filled carts again, because they are more convenient when Im out. What do you think?

If any of the cart mods work for you, that would be awesome. I never managed to get any of them to work well for me, and after I had spent about 40 hours messing around with them I decided to drip. After getting used to the flavor of dripping, I can taste all of the fillers people recommend. Polyfil, Lypton Pyramid tea bags, the blue foam, all of it. Me no likey.
