Here are the photos I took... and the that center wrap is still very wet ... so this is very scary... I did not realize it was so wet .. I took this apart and placed it in a baggie until I could take photos... and told Ben I would send him this.
I am not trying to cause and mass hysteria or anything but I do not understand this.. and Ben always was good at responding to me UNTIL I had trouble and now he is not replying at all. - except one time when I had problems with 3 carts .. but it took me 3 emails to get a reply... then I emailed him about the scorching days ago and nothing.
I am sad because I had high hopes and really loved these!
On the bright-
er side as far as any implications of the burning (beyond ruination of that carto, which is frustrating): If yours are like a lot of others including from the recent white-stripe batch, washing those wick swatches might remove all or most of the dark stuff that makes things look SO bad, which would mean it was burnt/carmelized juice rather than fabric. (That buildup occurs regularly in atties too.)
Any actual holes would remain of course, but as some of our techy members observed upon release of the Turbos/higher resistance kind, for a result to be that there are 'just' some holes or missing pieces confined to the wick is still a greatly improved one over standard and some other types of KR8 cartos. Not perfection but deemed a big step forward, so
should still be with this latest batch, from that 'safety' perspective only. And, once the burnt taste-turn is taken it would be hard to miss, so things probably won't get further even if they could (the materials themselves may assist in containment).
Again tho, that's only meant to comment on the aspect of possible safety concerns, not on whether this is happening more often with soft-cap or recent batches than prior ones; or whether the sudden/early death rate is acceptable, etc. (And it's also not meant as any kind of statement that at this level of burn/scorch, it's definitely safe; I wouldn't know. That's currently something each person can only hypothesize about and decide what they're comfortable with, but even within vaping itself we have the concept of {presumed} 'harm reduction.') Most of this post is just undirected & general btw!
Anyway. I have also used some of the first glued-on hard cap ones (prefills) and had the early, sudden burnt taste happen occasionally with those too. (The vape itself on those, and consistency of it, does seem perhaps a little diff to me tho.) Haven't done much comparison autopsying/yet. However, upon request several weeks ago, Scottbee said he'd compare and report after he'd used what were then the new soft caps for awhile. He's got lots of other stuff on his plate around now tho and I'm not sure if or when he might proceed.
So whether orig hard cap or recent self-filled blanks or prefills (btw, as has been mentioned, it's best to top off even the prefills before first use!), I've sometimes experienced the sudden turn. Since we regularly deal with QC issues and the occasional duds and poor performers with much of our vaping gear, still haven't really decided if I think the rate here is overall much higher than in other areas we currently have no choice but to accept. And the vape sure does beat standard cartos. It may even out well enough all in all, tho improvements are surely possible and would be great to see.
Filling in advance and letting sit a long time, especially before initial run, seems to help a lot; maybe breaks in the filler so juice distributes more evenly. And I do better when I focus most filling of these on the batt end, since that best distributes the liquid and moistens the center area/wick as it cascades over. Also helps avoid the dry pockets that can occur with condom filling from mouth end; I never do it that way anymore. Initially, I take cap off; condom fill from batt end with a
nub-less condom; a good spin and more fill; then regularly top off a little from both ends, or alternate ends without too much time in between. (Sometimes I just 'tailpipe' -- leave cap off -- which somehow encourages me to tend to things better. Occasional juice pops yes, but not often. Maybe this also helps in cases of ones that have a filler level so high that little vapor 'headspace' is left.) Batt end top offs I do by dripping in, but a few times a day I'll do the full batt end condom fill treatment, watching with cap off.
A full fill doesn't necessarily last me as long as a regular KR8 fill used to, but maybe for 'good' reason since juice vaporizes more completely in the higher resistance ones. I vape a lot so I'm topping/filling at least every couple hours when I have two PVs going, more if using a single PV. And it's still much more convenient than atties! (Lest one is using a juice-feed mod... which I also do!) Yeah, just old tired info there for most lol, but never know when it might be new to at least someone reading.
Still haven't given up on hitting the exact right routine to extend their life more. Keep thinking syringing could play a part, tho as of
yet it hasn't fared better for me. Vaping a couple drops of high-proof vodka through perked one back up, so will check out whether it's of any use in keeping stuffiness/juice distribution/whatever issues at bay. Was also just posted on another thread that overfilling can cause considerable stuffiness or performance hindrance. Also plan to start doing more advance filling, initially even days when that works out. In any event, I'm still amazed (and inspired
) by how long some seem to be making it on the same cartos.
Of course all of these things apply to the higher resistance cartos available from any vendor atm, isn't limited to the Turbos from what I've seen & heard.
