Would first ask what phone, Android, iPhone or whatever. Then, do you have the wifi-tethering/mobile hotspot with your carrier? If not, don't worry you can get around that. Do you have a usb data/power cable?

I understand, figured that was the case. Ok, I know how to set it up for android no problem, for iPhone, it'snot quite as easy... For android you can install an app that will allow you to make your phone a wifi hub for free. Normally you pay for that service but this applets you bypass it.

For iPhone, it's not as simple. The appstore blocks it on the iPhone as it avoids your carrier's tether plan. You have to jailbreak your phone and install it through Cydia.

But, if you have the mobile hotspot on your billing contract you should be able to connect fine without the use of apps. If you don't it will charge you (sometimes a considerable amount) to connect using your phone.

To do that, Go to the settings App and select the Personal Hotspot option. From the Personal Hotspot screen you can activate the hotspot and set the wifi Hotspot. You will then be able to see you iPhone from your devices WiFi network devices connection

If you don't have a wireless card in your computer (or laptop, most come equipped with those) you can use the cable to make a connection.

I'm an android man, so iPhone I don't know everything about. Hopefully it'll work fine for you but I don't have all the answers for iphone support if it doesn't work, but I can try to find them if you run into problems.
