The Rolling Stones Debut Album

The Rolling Stones is the debut album by The Rolling Stones, released by Decca Records in the UK on 16 April 1964. The American edition of the LP, with a slightly different track list, came out on London Records on 30 May 1964, with the added title England's Newest Hit Makers.

Recorded at Regent Sound Studios in London over the course of five days in January and February 1964, The Rolling Stones was produced by then-managers Andrew Loog Oldham and Eric Easton. The album was originally released by Decca Records in the UK, while the US version appeared on the London Records label.

The majority of the tracks reflect the band's love for R&B. Mick Jagger and Keith Richards (whose professional name until 1978 omitted the "s" in his surname) were fledgling songwriters during early 1964, contributing only one original composition to the album: "Tell Me (You're Coming Back)". Two songs are credited to "Nanker Phelge" – a pseudonym the band used for group compositions from 1963 to 1965. Phil Spector and Gene Pitney both contributed to the recording sessions, and are referred to as "Uncle Phil and Uncle Gene" in the subtitle of the Phelge instrumental "Now I've Got a Witness."

The album cover photo was taken by Nicholas Wright. The cover bears no title or identifying information other than the photo and the Decca logo – an "unheard of" design concept originated by manager Andrew Oldham.[2][3]

Upon its release, The Rolling Stones became one of 1964's biggest sellers in the UK, staying at No. 1 for twelve weeks.

The original British version is out-of-print on CD. In November 2010, it was made available as part of a limited edition vinyl box set titled The Rolling Stones 1964–1969, and by itself digitally at the same time. The release of the album in both the UK and US were only released in mono; no true stereo mix was ever made.

The Knack, Good Girls Don't (1979)
The Knack's debut album, Get the Knack, became one of the summer's best-selling albums. Fusing power pop with rock & roll and new wave sensibilities--with an added dash of teenage boy machismo--the album and the band became overnight sensations, primarily on the strength of a breakthrough single, My Sharona. Often forgotten was another single from the album, Good Girl's Don't. The album version's lyrics were considered too racy for a proper single, so a "clean" version was released that replaced some of the sexual slang with more suitable words. (An example is "... when she's sittin' on your face" became "... when she puts you in your place.")

Sniff 'n' the Tears, Driver's Seat (1979)
British band, Sniff 'n' the Tears scored their only hit in 1979 from this single taken from the band's debut album, Fickle Heart. While the album was recorded in 1978, it took a year for it to be released due to complications with their record label's distribution. Upon release, the single proved to be an international hit, reaching the charts in the UK, US, Canada, and the Netherlands. The band subsequently underwent numerous lineup changes and called it quits after four additional albums (it was later revived in 1992 following a resurgence in Driver's Seat's popularity after it was used in a European commercial campaign and the 1997 film Boogie Nights).

Ford Mustang

1964_Mustang_large.jpg

The Ford Mustang is an automobile manufactured by the Ford Motor Company. It was initially based on the platform of the second generation North American Ford Falcon, a compact car. Introduced early on April 17, 1964, and thus dubbed as a "1964½" model by Mustang fans, the 1965 Mustang was the automaker's most successful launch since the Model A. The Mustang has undergone several transformations to its current fifth generation.

The Mustang created the "pony car" class of American automobiles—sports-car like coupes with long hoods and short rear decks—and gave rise to competitors such as the Chevrolet Camaro,[5] and Pontiac Firebird, AMC Javelin, as well as Chrysler's revamped Plymouth Barracuda and the first generation Dodge Challenger. The Mustang is also credited for inspiring the designs of coupés such as the Toyota Celica and Ford Capri, which were imported to the United States.

Originally a trio, the band was formed in 1969 by Mark Farner (guitar, vocals) and Don Brewer (drums, vocals) from Terry Knight and the Pack, and Mel Schacher (bass) from Question Mark & the Mysterians; Knight soon became the band's manager. Knight named the band as a play on words for the Grand Trunk Western Railroad, a well-known rail line in Michigan. First achieving recognition at the 1969 Atlanta Pop Festival, the band was signed by Capitol Records. After a raucous, well-received set on the first day of the festival, the group was asked back to play at the Second Atlanta Pop Festival the following year. Patterned after hard rock power trios such as Cream, the band, with Terry Knight's marketing savvy, developed its own popular style. In 1969, the band released its first album titled On Time, which sold over one million copies, and was awarded a gold record in 1970.[2]
