Janis Joplin

article-0-19863F4600000578-1_470x580.jpg

Janis Lyn Joplin ( January 19, 1943 – October 4, 1970) was an American singer-songwriter who first rose to fame in the late 1960s as the lead singer of the psychedelic-acid rock band Big Brother and the Holding Company, and later as a solo artist with her own backing groups, The Kozmic Blues Band and The Full Tilt Boogie Band. Her first ever large scale public performance was at the Monterey Pop Festival, this lead her to becoming very popular and one of the major attractions to the Woodstock festival and the Festival Express train tour. Joplin charted five singles, and other popular songs from her four-year solo career include "Down on Me", "Summertime", "Piece of My Heart", "Ball 'n' Chain", "Maybe", "To Love Somebody", "Kozmic Blues", "Work Me, Lord", "Cry Baby", "Mercedes Benz", and her only number one hit, "Me and Bobby McGee".

As a 9-year-old in the winter of 1978--and following the release of Grease earlier that summer--I had a tremendous crush on Olivia Newton-John. "Totally Hot," as an album, was not tremendously good. It did, however, contain a few good songs, including the first single:

Ford Mustang

1964_Mustang_large.jpg

The Ford Mustang is an automobile manufactured by the Ford Motor Company. It was initially based on the platform of the second generation North American Ford Falcon, a compact car. Introduced early on April 17, 1964, and thus dubbed as a "1964½" model by Mustang fans, the 1965 Mustang was the automaker's most successful launch since the Model A. The Mustang has undergone several transformations to its current fifth generation.

The Mustang created the "pony car" class of American automobiles—sports-car like coupes with long hoods and short rear decks—and gave rise to competitors such as the Chevrolet Camaro,[5] and Pontiac Firebird, AMC Javelin, as well as Chrysler's revamped Plymouth Barracuda and the first generation Dodge Challenger. The Mustang is also credited for inspiring the designs of coupés such as the Toyota Celica and Ford Capri, which were imported to the United States.

I was born in 1959.
In 1969 I did these things.
1. Ride my bike to the neighborhood store and buy cigarettes for my dad.
2. leave my bike outside the store unlocked and it was still there when I came out.
3. Had enough change from the 30 cents he gave to buy his pallmall unfiltered and a pack of "bubble gum" cards.
