Pretty awesome!

On May 22, 1980, the Pac-Man video game was released in Japan and by October of the same year it was released in the United States. The yellow, pie-shaped Pac-Man character, who travels around a maze trying to eat dots and avoid four mean ghosts, quickly became an icon of the 1980s. To this day, Pac-Man remains one of the most popular video games in history.

Lava Lamp

A lava lamp (or Astro lamp) is a decorative novelty item, invented by British accountant Edward Craven-Walker in 1963, the founder of Mathmos. The lamp contains blobs of coloured wax inside a glass vessel filled with clear or translucent liquid; the wax rises and falls as its density changes due to heating from an incandescent light bulb underneath the vessel. The appearance of the wax is suggestive of pāhoehoe lava, hence the name. The lamps are designed in a variety of styles and colours.

Gary Numan, Metal (1980).
While previously a recording as Tubeway Army, Gary Numan's third album The Pleasure Principle--the first to be released under his own name--proved that synthetic sounds derived from synthesizers and other machines can be commercially successful. While the first single from the album, Cars, topped the charts in several countries and has become a staple of early electronic music, Metal has had a far larger impact, inspiring diverse artists such as Nine Inch Nails and Afrika Bambaataa, as well as remaining a fan favorite. (As a side note, one of his songs from an earlier release is titled, "Remember I Was Vapour.")

Devo, Whip It (1980)
The Brothers Mothersbaugh and Casales struck commercial gold with their third album, Freedom of Choice. While the strange kitch, quirky songwriting, and electronic sounds still kept them on the sidelines of true pop success, their Top 40 hit, Whip It, (along with two minor hits, Girl U Want and Gates of Steel) was fun enough that it was picked up by pop stations across the country and Devo became forever cemented in the pop culture psyche.
