I just asked him and he said he was in the 4th of the 9th Div., then after they left, he went to the 2nd of 47th Mechanized. I hope I got that right, he smiled when I read your post to him. :)

I am a Civil War buff so you will probably get all the battles and generals from me. I probably have a different view of Lincoln than most and still feel it was a shame Lee fought for the South... understand why but can just imagine how differently things could have been if he had fought for the North and become President...

Yeah, I think the Civil War stuff would be interesting, I just didn't want to see any opinions about which side was right. :) We watch a lot of the stuff about the war between the states, and this island, (Deer Isle, Maine) was featured a lot in Ken Burns' documentary.

There was a traveling exhibition about Lincoln, which only visited 50 cities, and one of them was in Castine, ME because of Joshua Chamberlain. We felt very lucky to see it twice. Since Castine is so tiny we got to spend as much time as we wanted, and there were no crowds.

There were two life masks of Lincoln, one done before the war, and one after. That was so neat to see. I also went to a plantation in South Carolina, where the house had been burned by the north, so I'm not taking any sides on this, but it would be interesting to do a contest on the 1860s.

Just sitting here thinking... as long as facts were posted and not opinions... shouldn't be a problem.

I don't hold Lincoln with the esteem that many others do. Would still have loved to have seen that exhibit. I have read countless books on the Civil War and visited every battlefield I have come across. WV just celebrated their 151st Birthday last week... it is a big deal for us. I don't think either side was totally right or wrong, both committed unspeakable atrocities...that is war.... and we are still suffering the effects of it because of the way the Reconstruction was handled moreso than the war itself.

I would rather see postings of text as opposed to dead bodies... I am sure we have all seen those and really don't need to see them again.
