Before starting this thread, I apologize in advance if it seems I'm .....y but I'm just ...... to say the least. And sry for length. I'm working hard to stay off analogs and although there's been some ups to vaping, I have to say there's been more downs at this point.

Background:
smoked analogs almost 20 years, 1- 1 1/2 pad, quit analogs MULTIPLE times thru the yrs longest was 7 months. So I'm very use to the effects of my body during and after quitting. This time quit has been 4.5 weeks. Started vaping about 2 weeks ago. Don't vape a ton..example, this week (Mon-Wed) maybe 1/2 tank of my 2.4 ml tank worth. Because i rotate tanks a lot, i don't have exact amount but I know it's minimal. Still chewing 4 mg nic gum 3x's per day. My nic cravings are HUGE, but I'm forcing myself to get off of it all together.

I have 3-4 flavors I rotate thru- 2 tobacco, 1 coffee, 1 fruit

Now the issues: I have had this so called "vapors tongue" going on day two. I felt like I was finally getting the vape thing down. Found some flavors I enjoy and craving cigs less and less. However, since I had a few issues w/flavors/burnt taste at the beginning, it kinda freaked me out so I vape less and used nic gum. In my mind, jury is still out on the whole safety thing on vaping so a little leery to go balls out.

My sense of smell/taste started coming back at week 2 from analogs, be4 i started vaping. Was awesome to smell cut grass again, taste my morning coffee in full flavor! Vapes were tasting and smelling great...then WHAM! Zero, zip. I was drinking a ton of water as I vape and not anything else (I don't drink anything else anyway) to the point I felt like I could float. My liquids are all USA made, high quality and use 18 mg, 12 mg, again switching. Tues night, noticed a lack of taste, but didn't think twice. Then, I vaped only a few drags yesterday AM-no taste...waited to vape all day until 6:00 PM, again no taste. Then tried again this AM @ 7, again zero taste. I actually squirted lemon juice in my mouth....I barely tasted it!!!!!!!

i switch up flavors every 4th/5th drag, I don't vape a lot, I brush, floss my teeth AND tongue 2-3 times a day (always did, nothing new). I use mouthwash w/alcohol at night, without in morning.

So, for those who post vapor tongue due to dehydration...no dice
Vaping too much-don't think so
Taste buds whacked because of smoking-No, because smoking analogs affects SMELL then TASTE, I still can smell great, my taste is completely screwed. And at week 4.5 w/out analogs, my smell and taste always came back and stayed.
Thrush w/out pain- if this many people are getting infections of the mouth w/out pain....then what the hell is going on????? Doesn't make sense and this is not normal

Ive search a TON of forums, I mean hours worth. I've seen this "vapors tongue" over and over from noobs to vets....folks, this is NOT normal. Don't even get me started on the coughing stuff...its like getting cut. You bleed because its your body's way of clotting because being cut is not normal. Neither is coughing or "getting use to vaping so you cough" or losing your sense of taste.

I've read peeps who have it/have had it with ALL different PV's (from the monster PV's to ecig babies), tanks, clearos/carts, flavors, PG, VG, heavy vap, lite vape, low mg to high mg, ex analog smokers to non analog smokers, inhalers to mouth only vapers......the only thing in common w/all..VAPING.

Im not trying to knock vaping at all...I was really enjoying it. I'm simply stating that if someone doesn't figure out whats causing this (ejuice manufacturers, PV makers..someone) this will add fuel to the fire for FDA to ban them all together or peeps like me to just say SCREW IT and go back to analogs. Analogs are horrible, unhealthy and it mutes my taste but at least I know why and can deal w/the consequences if I choose. With vaping, I hear excuses that don't make sense at all. It's the unknown that is scary or the explained reasons that seem to simply not be true. We all need to know the truth and why this stuff is happening and hopefully find a real solution to this odd problem.

Thanks for the vent and the long thread!

Who exactly is it you expect to find a solution to this?

Smoking destroys your taste buds. Smoking kills your sense of smell. Once your body has had a chance to repair what YOU did to yourself, vaper's tongue will go away forever. Most everything you describe in your post are the symptoms of quitting smoking, not the symptoms of vaping.

Sorry about the vapors tongue and maybe this is a dumb question, but have you tried switching flavors? Something radical. I love RY4s, but after vaping them all day they tend to get muted to me. I then like to switch to something fruity. Raspberry or Mango work the best. Maybe it's your coil. Clean one and try a fresh one in your tank.

I have a tank of a Caramel juice that's just plain bland now. Not sure what happened. The juice smells ok, but there's just no taste.

Before you go back to regular cigarettes, take a step back play with a few things and see if that works.

Hope this helps.

You're vaping moist flavored AIR. It is a delicate flavor. Not like when you actually bite into something. You may have never noticed that you lost a bit of being able tasting something, when you quit previous times, because the food you eat is a tangible thing. When I got vapers tongue, it surprised me because, like you, I had read everything and was making sure I did all the stuff to avoid getting it.

It is a normal process in the healing. You just never noticed it before because your other quits did not involve trying to get flavor from AIR. It will last 1 - 2 weeks and after that, as long as you keep up the routine of good oral hygiene, you shouldn't get it again. I've been vaping 11 months and I got vapers tongue in the beginning sometime. Can't remember exactly how long into vaping it started. I do remember how long it lasted. 2 weeks for me. But since I knew what it was, it didn't freak me out.

Haven't gotten vapers tongue again since.

This too shall pass.

Thanks for your "understanding". Good thing this isn't like an AA forum..just go drink..WOW! LMAO! Thought this forum could be used to throw out ideas/concerns w/out criticism. I know what I did to myself, I know smoking is horrible for your health, hence why I've tried to quit more times than I can count and why I wanted vaping to work so bad. I'm not slamming vaping, but hoping we'd ALL wake up to the fact there are issues that the current explanations are not making sense.

And because I am not a noob to analogs or quitting them since I've done it so many times, i know the process all too well of what my body goes through during the transition w/out them. My sense of smell IS back...that is what is alarming because sense of taste was too, but now gone. Both were back, strong. Now, only my taste is gone which never happened be4 in all my times of quitting analogs. During the first two weeks, yes, both would fade in and out. At 4.5 weeks, both are back and stay back...except now.

If you feel this is normal, ok, great. I respect your opinion. Thx for the info (?)

And Wrath, thx for the advice. I was switching between three totally different flavors to avoid this whole taste issue. I'm going to lay low on the vape for a few days then go for a totally different flavor like menthol. I hate menthol analogs, but that taste is completely different to anything I have so I hope it does the trick. I do NOT want to go back to analogs at all!!! I'm just jones'in still, nic cravings are crazy and losing taste after having it back for so long is freaky as hell.

Hi AngiBe,

I'm relatively new to vaping too. Been at it for about 2 months. I experienced "Vaper's Tongue" too and it wasn't pleasant. My e-liquid smelled wonderful, but everything tasted alike.

Everybody is different and I don't really think there's a "cure" other than allowing time for your body to adjust to vaping. I get that you're drinking water. That's good! Keep it up. :thumb:

The main point of this ramble is that I got some good advice and encouragement from folks here when I was going through it and although I don't necessarily have advice, I wanted to give you a cyber pat on the back and wish you the best.

This is the first time it was explained to me this way or read about this! And you're 100% correct, I've never vaped and didn't think about taste with air, being delicate and so forth. Thx!

AngiBe, gthompson's a good guy, he's just curt and to the point. With a healthy dose of sarcasm. Once you get to know him, you'll understand. :)

Also, you've made a wise choice in trying menthol flavors. I, too, never smoked menthol cigarettes, but when I made the switch, I experienced the same thing you did. Menthols help because they kinda confuse your taste buds, or at least gives them something they're not used to. But the others, including gthompson, are correct. Your senses will most definitely change.

To help you better understand, I experience rapid changes in my taste buds on a daily basis. It seems like as soon as I step into my building at work, my taste buds change on me. My ADV's taste different there. But just there, at work. As SOON as I walk out of those doors and I'm at home, or if I'm with friends or family or at school, they snap right back. Weird, right? I'm almost 100% convinced it's just my brain.

Honestly, and this may be difficult, maybe take an afternoon or even the whole day and vape something you do not like. Force yourself to do it. Maybe when you reach for your ADV's, they'll taste better.

Rocket, something in your workplace maybe throwing your smeller off its game. If you work around a bunch of different scents, your brain may be having a hard time reconciling what exactly it is supposed to be telling your taste buds to actually taste.

He works at a b&m lolz. He's probably smelling 8 different vapes at the same time.

Ain't that right bro?

The only other things I can think of are trying a new atty for your tank while soaking the one you're currently using. Also, different juice. I don't particularly like menthol, but I have found some sites offering Peppermint or Spearmint juices. I thought that might be interesting. Diamond Vapors has some of the strongest flavors I've come across. Good pricing too.
