It seems necessary to disclaim my circuitry experience as limited, so with that said I'll continue with my queries :p.

My goal is to create a mod that uses a three position slide switch to vary between 3.7v with the combined mAh of two batteries, and a 5v regulated output, kind of like a turbo switch.

Q1: Can this be done with a linear regulator, or is it absolutely necessary in this case to use a switching regulator?

Q2: What kind of regulator would you use? (Please include PN, Model#)

S-M, MadVapes has LDO (low drop out) 5V regulators IC's and Regulators and if you don't have one, should be able to pick up a slide switch at a Radio Shack / electronics store of your choice.

But if you are looking for a booster to boost from 3.7V to 5V, you will need something more than just a regulator. You would need something like the Texas Instruments 4050c, in which case it would be just as easy to make a true VV mod.

There are MANY excellent modders here (me not being one of them ;) ), if you don't get any more responses, just occasionally make a 'bump' post [just type 'bump.........' in the post quick reply box in order to keep your post on the first page of the Today's Posts.

I thought about doing the same thing as you are suggesting. There's a simple solution, variable voltage. Madvapes sells a vv board kit and it's inexpensive. That'll give you a much better selection of voltages. If you built in a voltage meter adjustment would be simple.
