I've put the bearing on the wrong spot. It's supposed to contact the negative part of the assembly.

It's a different idea and looks interesting. I could see there being some pretty complex work getting the Positive terminals to run down both sides down to the 510. I feel like it would be very tight in there, but I guess you also free up space on the bottom of the "deck". Nice images too.

I don't know how this would offer anything very different though. If you mounted the coils themselves vertically I could see this being more useful though. Vertical mount with wicks around the coil.

Well i fugured 2 assemblies would be better for the potential for 4 coils. I have yet to see an RTA with four coils.

Or a single massive vertical coil...

Tank inside single layer SS mesh covered by one wrap of outside layer of OC pad - how I am wicking my TGT-II now.

Single massive vertical coil around OC/SS mesh tank.

Chimney between glass and coil/tan k, small air holes around circumference.

External Air Control Ring.

Remove deck without emptying tank – top tank cap and glass.

Top fill.

That's a really neat and tidy looking deck aint it, and i like it. Though it does raise the coils up quite a bit.

The idea that the coil assembly posts could be recessed (refer to pictures above) means the coil could be built closer to the vent, or anywhere you want really !. It would make it easier to wick the juice.

So i am puzzled why there aren't more designs along these lines. The obvious reason for designs like these is to create more space on the deck. All we are really seeing though is the basic designs repeated by different brands with no real innovation being implemented. Although my pictures above could be improved and i may have missed a detail or two the idea is still valid. There are some great atty's available on the market. I recently purchased a Russian 91% and it's made really well and i like it. Will be buying a Kayfun v4 next week too. So i don't have a problem with existing designs, it's just the lack of imagination when it comes to the business end of these devices and not the aestetics, i love the aestetics.

Welcome to any business ;). Lack of imagination runs rampant once a design becomes successful and "good enough." The Kayfun deck design is almost 2 years old now, yet we are still seeing the exact same implementation in tons of new tanks. Because its good enough. I guess a lot of tank designers are satisfied with it.

The ones who are never satisfied, and always think things can be reimagined and improved, are the ones who change the status quo. The ones who are satisfied and just looking to make some money will keep the status quo.

I know there is tons of innovation left in how RTAs work. Liquid transfer to the heating element could be improved tremendously. The Kayfun juice channel system was a brilliant idea....back when everyone was still using silica. Now that everyone is using cotton, I don't see as much value in the juice channel design. Cotton can be fluffed and expanded, silica can't. It made sense for silica, not for cotton. An RTA deck designed for cotton should look more like a Subtank OCC coil. Large juice openings, cotton fluffed and expanded to block the opening from the inside, juice traveling horizontally NOT vertically fighting gravity. If someone could design an RBA base that works similar to a BVC coil, THAT would be interesting.
