Here's the box so far. The bottom compartment has just enough room (with a mm on each side) to fit the LM2596 that I have coming on its side (it's 44mm x 22mm x 14mm). Hoping this turns out well, but if not, it's all good. I'll definitely be reporting back.

These regulators aren't very tall right? Has anyone thought about trying to mount one to the lid of the box and just making the wires long enough so you can easily take the lid off to tinker around inside the box? If the regulator is around 13 to 14 mm tall, it seems as though one could position the batteries (say 2 16340s) along the left side of the box, the regulator hanging down over the right side of the box when the lid is on, and then could squeeze in a juice bottle, connector, switches, etc along the whole open right part of the box next to the batteries. Moreover, if you were to use 10440s, you could easily have the regulator positioned right above the batteries when the box is closed. Just throwing out ideas here, trying to think of the optimal vv juicebox layout in a 3x2x1 box.

Go with the 2596... the 2587 puts out 5v at the lowest. You want something that will allow you to get down into the mid to high 3 volt range, yet allows you to get up to the 6 volt range.

I just built mine using this chip, used a 2aa box to hold batterys(2x14500) hot glued 3aa box to it to hold chip, switch and battery connector, drilled a hole in the front of the 3xaa box to access the pot, and all I have to say is that this thing rocks, I do not think I will be able to go back to a standard 3.7 mod now, I love it.......

I'm planning to try this LM2596-ADJ but because of its size it won't fit on a tube mod... I have found this on ebay and I want to know if this will work to replace the LM2596-ADJ, and if I can use a single 18650 protected li-ion battery?

NEW LM-2577 LM2577 DC-DC step-up board DC converter

While browsing ebay a while back I came across an ebay seller selling the LM2596-ADJ switching regulator with all external componets (the caps, diode, inductor, trimmer, etc) already soldered with the regulator to a pcb. AND for only $7.50!! :2cool:

It's absolutely a breeze to work with. Only need to connect Vout to the atty connector (pos Vout to to atty inner and neg Vout to atty outer) and Vin (pos Vin to one leg of the switch and neg Vin to the neg connector of the batt) and the other leg of the switch to the pos pole of the batt. Zip zip lickity split and it's done.

The seller also includes 2 connection cables (one for Vout and one for Vin).

DC-DC Converter Board regulator In:3-30V Out:1.3-18V - eBay (item 300459975900 end time Sep-24-10 23:28:48 PDT)

Here's what it looks like:

I used a 4x2x1 enclosure (Hammond 1591ABU). I cut 2, 18650 batt holders in half, trimmed them to size, then glued the halves back together to fit the 16340 batts.

Checking voltages. YAY - it works!! :toast:

All done.

Size comparison with a 3AA batt box. And of course, my helper had to make an appearance. :D

i'm new to modding and my background to electronics is primitive.... can i use this LM-2577 on a CE2-XL R4 at 4-5Volts using single 18650 battery? This is what I like to achieve on my first mod... Thanks

Yes that will work fine. Just wont do LR atomizers or cartos. But you would be good down to 2.1 ohms resistance anything lower and your going to be pushing the max output of the regulator.

thanks for the inputs WillyB and Java_AZ...

one more question, if LR atomizers be used on LM-2577... what voltage can be set? so that LR atomizers can be used? is it lower or higher 5v? sorry for my noob question i'm still confuse at ohm's law... :)
Time to do some work on your own.

Use that calculator I posted, Enter the voltage you want and the resistance of the atty/carto (you can only enter any two values) and hit calculate. If the amps pop up higher than about ~2.3A ( a little cushion, a little less than the listed 2.5A max), try a lower voltage till the amps come into line.
Or pop in your resistance (the ohms of the atty) and 2.3A and note the voltage, that will be the highest you can go.
