Although I've been vaping for almost 6 years, I'm finally getting into trying to rebuild my atomizers, mainly because the cost of the subtank heads are $5 at my local shop, which is drawing the line for me, but also because I want to create my own. First, here's the stats:
- istick 30W
- Kanger SubTank Mini
- Rebuilding OCC heads (trying to) with:
I've watched ALL of the videos below on how to do this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6w2p09Iu11U
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCqNcKZAZjM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLO7SEDrcNo
All very informative, and all very successful. I followed all the instructions, except for the torch burn, because I don't have a torch. Here's what happens:
1. I wrap the coil around either a 2.4mm screwdriver or a 3mm bit I have (tried both several times)
2. 2.4mm gets 6/5, 3mm gets 5/4.
3. I place it into the head as shown in the video, get the leads down, put it on my mod.
4. Mod reads 0.9 for the 2.4mm and 1.0 for the 3mm. Perfect.
5. I dry burn "pulse" it a few times to get crud off. While doing this, I notice it takes a while for it to light up, and also to stop being lit after I release the button. Note: I am not holding it down for a long time. I know the leads can burn the insulator.
6. I remove it from my mod and cut a strip of organic cotton, maybe about 4mm in width.
7. I twist the end of the cotton, and push through the hole, through the coil, and out the other side of the OCC. I keep pulling until I get about 4mm through, then the cotton is STUCK. If I pull anymore, the cotton rips and I have to try again, usually with a REALLY small strip of cotton.
8. When I finally have it built, I wick it, fill my juice, and vape.
9. As observed before, it takes a while for the hit to happen, and when I release the button, it keeps burning for a second or two.
Any ideas as to what I may be doing wrong? I'm specifically worried about steps 5, 7, and 9. The cotton ripping is extremely frustrating, as everyone else seems to do this with ease. The flavor is just OK, and the overall experience is TERRIBLE compared to the stock OCC head.
