I posted this in my new members intro thread but got no hits so I'll try here.. Copy and paste inbound!

And since I need to post 5 times in order to post in a appropriate area I'll post my initial question here. I'm a little impatient some times hah! So I bought my first mechanical vape yesterday- Magneto! I have a UD ADA-TD rba for it.. So I was a little confused with setting it up, read the horribly written instruction packet it came with along with various tutorials on YouTube and other sites.. I rolled the mesh, burnt it for oxidation, wrapped my wire 4 times. So i figured it was all fine and dandy. I hooked the top wire on the mesh to the positive terminal and the bottom to one of the screws as a negative. I went to test fire it (as the fella in the YouTube video did) and all it did was light up the top wire from the positive to the mesh like the 4th of July. It got so hot it split the wire. The entire wire wasn't heating up, only the top portion and maybe 3mm of the first wrap. I tried 3 more times with the same results... All it did was ruin my wire and not I have none (it only came with two pieces) and I can't vape my brand new magneto. I'm pretty much let down and kinda ....... Anyone know why this is happening? Do I ABSOLUTELY have to have both wicks going with both wrapped 4 times and hooked to different grounds? Why won't the entire wire heat up rather than just the top portion? If anyone can help it'd be great. I ordered like 3 meters of wire (1m kenthal and 2m n) and new
Meshes... Just want to have the proper knowledge to do it right this time when it gets here!

Thanks to all in advance!

Ok - first most - before you are test firing on your magneto - you need to check the ohms with and ohmeter/multimeter and ensure you have not created a dead short as opposed to a proper function coil. 4 wraps with wire on mesh is pretty irrelevant to determining resistance. What are the Ohms? The variance is determined by wire gauge, mandrel diameter, wrap spacing - and a million etcs.

Also - Check out this sticky - there is a lot of information on Ohms law, proper batteries, determining your amp draw....and other useful information.

Wow, to start, genesis atomizers are hard to learn since your wrapping a coil around a conductive wick. They can be very finiky but rewarding once setup right. Dual coils are another pain to get right since both coils need bo be as close to identical with equal lenght legs to the posts as possible, or they will vary in resistance, causing the lower resistance one to fire first and create a hot spot, a massive one if the resistance is too far off, since electricity will flow through the path of least resistance. AGA-TD is not a beginners atomizer.

That being said, you DON'T have to set it up in dual coil, you can just use one of the wick holes and learn how to build a single coil genesis first. It sounds like either your coils are wrapped too tight around the mesh wick or your wick is not oxidized enough. Look up Peter K method in youtube and try this out, its a good way to learn how to setup a genesis. I also hope that you have a high drain battery with high amp rating, since you will prety much have a dead short if your coils are not heating up evenly. Once you are more comfortable building a basic single coil on the genesis, learn how to pulse oxidize your build for more advanced or lower resistance builds.

Hope this helps some...

Ok so how do I check the ohms without one of those convenient testers? I have a multimeter but how would I check it with that? I suppose ill just buy one of those testers...
In like 30 seconds. But for information sake how is it tested with a multimeter?

I believe the lack of oxidation may have caused it to create a circuit with the mesh and have the first wrap take and return all the energy.. It's tell tale sign of a short for sure. I would have never thought of this if you hadn't mentioned it so thanks!

Ill try a less right wrap and hope for the best. I'll have to figure out how to test it before i test fire so I'll have to learn how to do that first. Thanks for the info!

Touch one lead on the threads of the connector and one on the center post of the connector.

Yup, or you can touch one of the leads to the build deck of the atomizer and the other lead to the positive center post of the atomizer. To me, this way is much easier than trying to test from the 510 connector, much bigger area to work with.

Like Gonzo said, use the pulse method to avoid coils popping and shorts. It's basically not mashing the power button down, but quickly pushing and letting off of the button. You'll see the coil(s) light up and darken, and almost work the hot spot(s) out of your coil. Sometimes you will still have to fiddle with the coil to completely work them out.

+1 on what D said. And this may help....................How to Read a Digital Ohm Meter: 7 Steps (with Pictures)

I would also suggest you pulse fire it when first test firing your coil at about 1/2 to 1 second bursts and build up the length of your pulses until your coil heats evenly. Good luck.

Don't forget to use a halfway draing battery to pulse fire your new coil to reduce the chance of damaging your battery.
