VG/PG - Does it matter for newbies?

So in shopping around for juice, I haven't been able to find very much in the way of choices, especially regarding VG. Most of them only have the options as to the size of the bottle and strength of the nicotine - I haven't found any that list a choice of percentages of PG to VG, and very few of them even say if it's PG or VG. Am I missing some key vendors, or is getting a different ration mostly just possible with DIY?

Try MT Baker,Mister E, Fluid Vaper.....all of these let you pick ratios

And if you look at the main forum, there are other trusted vendors that do the same

This is a good point. After you get the right hardware (not a KR808D-1, IMHO), you will notice a world of difference right off. I went from V2s to Ego C-Twist with CE4 clearos and mini BCCs, then to a Sigelei Zmax V5 and just bumped into Aspire ET-S BDC (bottom dual coil glassomizers), which are awesome for flavor production. So, a juice that might have had a marginal flavor is now improved. Also, I've tried various PG/VG ratios and have settled in at 50/50 at 12mg Nic. Believe it or not, after switching to vaping I find some tobacco flavors to be downright nasty tasting. I only use 555, Ry4 and Honey Cured. There are way too many other PLEASANT flavors out there than tobacco....and, with the nic in the juice, you don't get the craving. Because there are so many flavors, one begins comparing different makers of the same flavor, e.g. blueberry, to find who has the best one. This could take a very long time, but it's a lot of fun. This is why I prefer juice vendors that give you the most control over the mix: PG/VG, extra flavor, flavor shots, menthol, sweetener, etc.
ECBlendflavors is a great one for flexibility.

I also don't care about throat hit as much anymore, because it can be irritating because as edyle points out you WILL be vaping more than you used to smoke. Plus, I don't really care to fill the room with a big cloud of fog ;)

Having said all that, there are some vendors who have great off-the-shelf product, like Jamaican Me Crazy from Pink Spot Vapors, Bluewater Punch from Volcano and Blue Voodoo from Mister E Liquid. So I usually go by reviews, bearing in mind of course, that flavor is very subjective. Good luck.

I started on the 70/30 stuff, and in the process of trying to be able to make those big youtube clouds, have landed at around 40/60, which is as high of a VG percentage as I can get using PG based nic and flavor.

The state of my body has changed through that journey in such a way that I have become sensitive to PG now. What allowed me to break free of cigarettes, is now what I'm breaking away from, using higher VG ratios.

Currently I am shifting to lower flavouring ratios, while still retaining a satisfying vape.

Pretty much mirrors my experience. High-PG ratios (70/30 or 80/20) are the industry default, probably because they're viewed as friendlier to new vapors -- more intense flavor, more throat hit, faster wicking. But as time passes (after quitting cigarettes), your taste buds will reawaken, and you may branch out into different delivery devices that hit harder and can easily handle thicker juices.

That's not to say that everyone starts at high PG and moves to high VG; some people find that they're allergic/sensitive to PG; others find that they can't stand high VG. Some people never move on from cigalikes or egos. The point is that each of us has to determine for himself what's best, and what's best may very well shift over time.

For most people, though, the industry default is good enough, at least at the beginning.

Hi. I'm new to this and have been vaping for about six weeks. I bought my kit from Halo and am really pleased with it. I got the Triton tank and the Tribeca e juice. Love it. Their juice is made in USA and is pg. Cheers Susie

Halo uses a proprietary (secret) PG ratio in its juices, but they do say that it's more PG than VG. I'm guessing somewhere around 70/30, but it might even vary by the recipe. In any event, Halo got me started, and for that I'll always be grateful.

I started off with 50/50 and its still my preferred ratio. I tried my first 80VG/20PG and i wasnt a fan. Then again i was new to vaping (still kinda am) and i used it from an iclear 16 which is guess wasnt my best choice as far as a tank to vape that mixture from. Also i got an acidic flavor and it was just really harsh. I have still yet to try it in another tank but as of now im sticking to my 50/50 and leaning more towards a heavier PG ratio then VG.

I've got a ton of different ones from several different companies and manufacturers, so I'm going to be in test phase for quite awhile! Most have suggested I keep up with my analogs to start with, which I think is a good idea. Hopefully I'll be able to find something that is close enough to the sensation of my analogs to make the full switch, then the true fun begins! Thank you again to everyone for your help - y'all have been a godsend!

Have you been able to cut your cigarrette usage down to half yet?

oh wait; i think you haven't quite started yet?

anyway i think most people once they start, if they still smoke sometimes they're down to like only 10% what they used to smoke.

I've found that for me I need a good cloud of vapor to satisfy my craving.
I'm fairly new to vaping with anything more than a blu, which didn't work for me.
From this thread I learned that my wife insisting on the 100% VG has given me a leg up in my success.

I have been fighting some wicking issues, having pretty good luck with a carto tank and my MVP2

PG gives me a sore throat. It is a bummer though because the only good coffee e-juice I can find locally is only offered in 100% PG. I use 50/50 in my tanks and 80/20 VG/PG in my dripper. I agree with Lushtrucker that a good cloud satisfies my craving as well.
I'm with you! I found that PG makes me cough, feels harsh, just not enjoyable at all. VG/PG mix was better, but not ideal.. I just got a sample pack from Velvet Vapors of the 100% organic VG and I love it! So much better than anything else I've tried! No sore throat, no coughing, great flavor too! On their website, they said that they mix extra flavor in the VG to compensate for the issue with VG not being as flavorful, so as of right now, I would recommend them. I am yet to try any other 100% VG juices yet.

Have you tried the coffee one by adding some glycerin from the pharmacy to it? just mix half and half and you end up with 50/50. The flavor will dilute, sure, but if you try it I bet you'll like it.

A 70/30 (PG/VG) blend is a great way to start. As the PG will give the throat hit and the VG helps to give flavor. The nicotine blend is also important, I (personally) would never go higher than 24 mg. Different juices seem to taste a bit better at a higher VG level without losing the hit strength, though. Good luck! It's fun to experiment.

Hmmm. Something to consider. I have been mixing it with cappuccino form my local vape shop that makes their own flavors. They have coffee on the list to make in the near future.
