Virginia Flue-Cured

In southern Virginia, flue-curing tobacco barns are everywhere, and the scent of curing leaf fills the valleys. The finished product gives a smoky, spicy taste with just the faintest sweetness. This comes pretty close without being too fussy.

3.0% Flue Cured tobacco (TPA)
4.0% Virginia (Hangsen)
0.5% Ethyl Maltol (10% PG) (TPA)

I will have to give this a shot, except I will be using FA Virginia and Hangsen Flue Cured. Should be similar, I am sure. Thanks.

Ordered some red oak (FA oak wood) to try with this, but its not bad as-is. The batches I tried with seedman were too heavy/thick and the stuff plays rough on cotton, ended up dropping it.

What is the flavor profile of Oakwood/Red Oak? I would assume woodsy, but is it tobacco based?

Yeah tobacco with a smoky/wood note. Thinking of using a tiny amount as a top note.

3rd batch and reduced flue-cured to 1.75%, too strong at 3%. Its either too much or not enough, the stuff is darn picky to mess with.

Is it similar to Tobacco Absolute?

Still waiting on oakwood, snow and ice mustve slowed delivery. From what I read, it doesnt sound much like TA but the comments were positive. Maybe the FA flue-cured is easier to play with than this tpa stuff, its picky to within 1%, the first batch was overpowering, the next one I couldnt taste it at all. Now it just seems kinda mediocre without adding something else to it.

You could also try Hangsen BD all by itself at 3% for the same or similar flavor.

Will try the ACV. HS BD sounds good and theyre so much easier to work with. 2% tpa flue-cured is like a magic number, any more and it overpowers, less and it fades too much. Tried a little TA blend and its not bad, I ended up with this so far...
