On the Rd now going to head to Michaels in a few. Does the yarn work better than those pads or should I just get the pads?

Eric, if it was me I would try the pads.

Either way you will want to boil them, changing water a few times. The pads are easier to deal with and dry, IMO.

If you just boil a few and you don't like them, your wife will probably have a use for them, and they are only around a buck.

I didn't boil mine, just cut one and tried to make a coil and it didn't work well. It probably would have worked better for me if I'd done the boil and dry first.

Well, either way cotton tastes better than silica.

The boiling is to insure any sizing that might have been used (or anything else you wouldn't want to inhale) is removed. Some people don't boil, but I figure it's safer.

I did sections. I didn't do the whole roll. I was using my food dehydrator to dry it, so I needed something manageable.

If I'd been doing this in July I might have done the whole roll since I could just stick it outside and it would be dry in like 20 minutes, but I wasn't and didn't want my cat messing with it while I was trying to dry it.

I'll report back here with the results. I'm debating if I should just use a single strand of yarn or try doubling. It's all trial and error. Only negatives that I see are that I can't dry burn or change flavors easily but it's worth it for the flavor enhancement over silica.
