I've found if I crank the voltage I get burnt cotton flavors. Not as bad as burnt silica though(gag). in the 3 ohm coil range the highest I can go is about 4-4.2V
You probably have a hot spot on your coil, 3 ohms at 4.2v is only 5.88 watts and that should not burn any wet wick. I normally vape 2.4 ohm at 5v (10.4 watts) and have never had any burning. To get 3 ohms in a tight space the coils are very close together and can easily touch and short when they expand with heat.

I don't really understand. I've rewicked a few, testing 4, 5 and 6 wraps. I double up the legs and make sure there are no shorts. Put a piece of Cotten batten on top, notch out the rubber top(slightly) and I still have burnt pieces after the first tank. I know it's wicking fine? It's always saturated and the wick isn't choking(to my belief). The last one I did was 5 wraps with my provari reading 2.3? What's up

By burnt pieces, are you talking about the wick, the cotton...? if so, you may have a coil hot spot. what was the resistance of your wire prior to coiling?

Both the wick and the cotton batten. It's not REALLY burnt, there's a spot of black on the batten(almost like one coil is off of the wick, but wouldnt the cotton batten provide enough juice?). both the wick and batten are discolored and the wick under the coils isnt burnt or black or crumbling, but its hard as a rock. I've seen worse, but it's giving me a less than desired juice flavor. I'm going to buy a 2mm screw at home depot tonight to see if maybe I'm choking the wick. Has anyone used this method and will it work fie with #1/0 square braid cotton? I don't know how to tell what won't choke

is it adviasble to use a 3mm or 2mm silicia wick?...cause I am afraid the 3mm would not fit into the vivi nova

3mm is pretty large, but could probably be used if you enlarged the slots. Some people grind/drill/mill a hole at the bottom of the slots for that purpose.

Most of my wicks end up being 1.5-2mm in diameter, and they work fine with unmodified slots.

cause when I look at it the hole is quite big...sadly I dont have anyone who has a wick for me to spare to test out which ones fit

If all you have is a 3MM wick, you just need to adjust the hole as stated by Lucent Shadow.

I have made 3mm holes in Vivi heads and used 5mm cotton based wicks. If you have a 3mm wick, you need determine what the pinch point is for blocking good liquid flow through the wick. Obviously, your hole needs to be larger than the pinch point. You can approximate a pinch point by twisting your wick as tightly as possible. Measure the diameter of a tightly twisted wick, your hole need to be as large as the measurement. Different materials have different wicking capabilities so if may take a few try to optimize. So if your 3MM wick twists down to 2mm, start there and work your way up to 3MM. (I think the stock Vivi slot is only 1.5 MM.)

Take notes and let us know what worked for you.

Thanks for your definition of the pinch point. Could never get into the theory that cotton swells and you had to make the coils much bigger than the threads or it would restrict the wicking. The pinch point is much smaller than the static dry threads.
