I emptied out the thicker juice yesterday and refilled half way. After 10 hours of vaping and making sure to not set it down flat when the head could still be hot, I have reached the bottom of the tank with juice just as clear as I started with. So I guess I just need to be more conscious about how I'm holding the darn thing.

I think I may try a higher pg ratio to help it wick. What ratio are you guys using with yours. I'm at 50/50 now.

Interesting idea about the rolled up paper towel... I'd like to try cotton wick at some point, but it's good to know there are common household items that can be used as a wick in a pinch!

Thanks to a bit of tinkering and the advice from you kind folks, I'm becoming more impressed with and even amazed by the nova. It's not the same as dripping in an atomizer, but it's nearly as good tasting, and in one respect, even better (for me) in that I've never been able to get *consistent* performance from an atty when dripping, without cleaning out the effing battery connector all the time, and waiting for it to cool -- the nova is now giving me that.

I'd yet to work up the courage to try dry burning with any devices, since I've always been concerned with frying something. But after trimming the wicks so they only reach about half way down the tank, cleaning the 1.8 head in vodka, and then dry burning a few times, re-wetting with vodka in between dry burns, and blowing the crud off the coil... then filling and vaping at 3.3 volts:

Oh. My. God.

Every hit is almost perfect in flavor, it's wicking like a champ, and has been tasting incredible for about 10 hours. There's a little variation in flavor and vapor when vaping heavily, and I have to go up to 4 volts or so to get big TH, but that seems to bum out the juice I'm using a bit, but I don't want a giant throat hit anyway, so for now, low voltage it is for me.

The novas seem to need a little tinkering, mostly just cleaning, and they positively beckon experimentation, and offer the possibility of practically cost-free operation, so if, like me, you're kind of in to that sort of thing, you might quite like the nova.

If they can make a future version that works this well out of the box, I think they'll sell quite a few. I wouldn't even mind paying a little for somewhat increased build quality.

Honest to god, I'm not trying to advertize these things for them, but as a still new-user, I just think these things are the best vaping device ever, after messing with cartos and atomizers for 2 months, I was 100% ready for this.

I've got a Nova 2, and just recently was getting a drier, slightly smokish taste-I think I was just misunderstanding how the feeding system works-had to roll the tank around to saturate the wicks again which fixed it, but maybe I'm still confused-isn't it supposed to 'feed' up from the bottom to where the atomizer is? Admittedly I let the tank get pretty low, but still...

Yep, rolling the tank around helps a lot. If the flavor fades or there's any smoky or burny taste, it's time to re-wet the wick, or even better, don't let that happen in the first place.

Holding the thing upside down for a minute (being careful of a drop coming out the tip) every few hits doesn't hurt. I found this to be the case even with the longer wicks, though now I have them trimmed. Once the fill goes below the top of the wicks, some twirling, shaking or inverting is definitely necessary.

I even vape with the battery end pointed up slightly so the wicks are submerged while I draw, though this does (occasioually) result in a tiny bit of liquid in my mouth.

I just rewicked mine with rolled up paper towel and it wicks like a champ. Way better than the silica. I hope this helps!

I find this very interesting! Didn't think this type of thing would work. How's it holding up now after a few days? On first though, I'd think the paper towel would burn up in there. Hmm.

Anyone else try anything similar to this? Wicking issues are something that are found in all clearomizers it seems.

I have been using my Vivi Nova 2.5 tank since monday, and it's working great with no issues. I think the dry hits are probably coming from the 50/50 mix.. I have been using tanks for a while and noticed that even 60/40 pg/vg is pushing it with the dry hits in the tanks. The best is 70/30 in them, try and let the juice warm up a little before putting in the tank ( sit in warm water for a few minutes).

Are you tilting and twirling it often to keep the wicks wet? I see no other reason for dry/burnt hits. Are you using a VV PV? If so, try turning the voltage down. These things want a lot less voltage than carto's.
Yes I am twirling/tilting etc. I do have VV. So with a 2.8 head what is the standard voltage most use with this? TIA

I gave up on using the 2.8 heads. I got nothing but dry hits even after unraveling and trimming the wicks (it had different wicks than the heads on the 1.8 and 2.4). I switched to the 2.4s and have been having no issues since. I vape between 4.0-4.5 depending on the juice with the 2.4s.
