After lurking for a while, I have decided I should take the plunge and start off with the Volt! from SmokelessImage.com with a PCC, but I have some questions:

1) I understand they will be getting in 78mm batts soon, but they haven't arrived yet. Is it worthwhile to wait for these, or just go with the 65mm ones available now? How much more life do the 78s give, 10%, 20%, etc.? (I'm making the rash assumption the longer batts + PCC will be more expensive, but don't know that for sure).

2) Do the cartomizers for these units need to be cleaned occasionally to keep them going, or once they crap out are they to be thrown away?

3) If the answer to #2 is "clean them", are there instructions on how to clean this particular type of cartomizer? I'm concerned that some of the videos I've seen may be for different or older makes of these cartomizers.

4) Any other tips for using the Volt!?

(I really wish n00bs were allowed to post directly into suppliers' forums :( . I would think that an active supplier would quickly remove any spam from "his/her" forum!).

First, welcome to ECF! It will only take a few comments to reach your post so you can post elsewhere. I love my VOLT, but unfortunately I'm technically challenged, bad for you - good for me that I found the VOLT. Easiest pv hands down.
I'll leave the batt size question to someone else but I can tell you I have no problems with the life of the batts and if you get the pcc you won't have to worry. Longer batt does equal longer charge.
I do not clean the cartos, I do however top them off w/liquid juice which VOLT will be carrying soon to make them last longer.
Like I said...you're on a great start - this forum is awesome. VOLT is a great company w/ good customer service, prices and quality product.
just reply back so we can get your post count up. :)

I use to use hot water to clean cartos - the filter looking thing.

A friend told me about using denture cleaner and that does a great job.

Also, if you want you can't get a little sonic washer for under $30. Just google it.

oh yea... make sure you let them dry before you use them again. Water logged cartomizers are no fun :)

Hi res, welcome to ECF! You made a great choice with the Volt, I absolutely love mine and couldn't be happier with my experience. Let me see if I can help:

1: Yes, you will get longer battery life from the 78mm batts, I am getting around 3 hours of solid use out of the 65mm, and one lasts me all day at work although I do take a spare with me. I am going to order some 78s for comparison, and also a manual battery just based on the recommendation of so many others, but I've had zero problems with the autos.

2: the cartos can be refilled several times, and yes they can be cleaned as well. There are a ton of videos on YouTube that can tell you how. Look for information on KR808D-1 carto information if you want model-specific info.

3: see 2.

4: It's a super easy model to get started with, I would just advise to be careful not to overfill your cartomizers, they won't work well and could leak juice into the battery and fry it, and to take long, easy steady drags.

See you soon on the Volt thread and again, welcome!

ps order twice as much juice as you think you need! Trust me on this one!

All you need is 3 more posts and time for the forum to update so you can post on their thread:)

I believe you should get about 1 more hour outta the longer batt. That will vary based on how you use it. There are some who vape light enough that a 78 will last them all day. I cannot really answer from experience as I always have several in rotation at the same time and always charge before their time.....so I am basing on what I have read elsewhere.

Carto cleaning...you can clean the cartos and there are many different methods of doing so....and everyone has their own niche with it as well as to which is best, so really it is whatever you find works for you.

as far as other tips, there probably are many, but most come about from questions during use:D This model ecig is the most fiddle-free, easiest to use, and in my opinion are just plain awesome! Best tip I can think of before use....if you fill your own carto, be careful not to overfill. There are many video's out on filling these cartos too:)

Welcome to the forum and imo you have made a great choice for your first ecig!

1) I use the 65mm ones. I rotate 2 of them. I stay at home all day and vape the heck out of them. (I do have a backup ego, but that's only for extreme vaping days. I prefer my VOLT. I don't have a PCC. I don't really need one but could see them being useful for someone who gets out more than I do. The PCCs that they have now fit the 65mm ones. Maybe when they get the new batts in, they'll also get in PCCs that will be longer and would fit.

2) I keep refilling mine. (I'm lazy and don't clean them.) I haven't had to throw any of them away because they crapped out on me though.

3) See answer 2. I'm lazy.

4) No other tips. These are the easiest things to get set up and vape that you can imagine! I love mine although I have more "expensive" PVs.

Thanks to all who replied. Based on these answers, I will probably:

1) Wait for the 78s. If they don't show up soon enough for me, I'll just go with the 65mms. I'm up in the air right now if it should turn out that the 78 batts arrive, but no PCC... I hoping to change jobs soon (i.e., from self-un-employed to working :p) and I want to be able to make it through a work day, plus driving each way, without carrying a boatload of batteries around.

2) Just re-fill cartomizers until they taste bad, then give them one more try after cleaning before buying new ones. If cleaning doesn't generally help, then I'll stop that part of the cycle. I'll wait to purchase a sonic cleaner until I know that hand cleaning is of some benefit.

3) Not to over-fill the carts. (Well, at least after the second or third re-fill experience...).

Again, thanks for the info.

First of all, congratulations that you've decided to try an e-cig and see if it will help you quit smoking. That's the first huge step.

Here's my take at your questions:

1. If I were you, I would not wait for the longer batteries. One very nifty thing about these smaller batteries is that I can once again hang one out of my mouth while typing, etc. Anything longer and I would not be able to do that. For me it's just nice to have that ability again, but for a beginner, getting as close as possible to a real cigarette length helps with the "illusion" of smoking, like if you're baby's crying for a pacifier, a rattle won't work as well at that moment. :2cool: I have no problems at all with these "shortie" batteries, matter of fact, I love them, and I've been building e-cig mods for quite a while, got all the best toys yet I've shelved them all in favor of my Volt.

And, huge AND here, every day you are still smoking is hurting you and those you love. The sooner the better.

2. & 3. These carts do not have to be cleaned as often as any other kind of cartomizer. I am amazed that I can refill these 10 times or more and not have to clean them. It's because of the design, there's a pourous silica tube perpendicular to the coil that keeps the filler from touching the coil. So if you were going to stick with the same or similar flavor in a cartomizer, I've no idea at this point how long you could go without having to clean them, 'cause I haven't had to clean mine yet, been nearly a month. Other designs of cartos, yep, you have to clean them every refill or every other refill.

4. Tips? Buy a kit. It will arrive in a couple of days. Open it up, put the batteries to charge to ensure they are full. Take out a carto, remove the rubber booties, screw it onto the battery - not too tight, just snug it on. Vape. Never put e-liquid into the carto while it's on the battery because the battery has an air-pressure switch inside it, if you get e-liquid into it, you will kill the battery.

Hope this helps.
