Hello everyone, I smoked for 8 years. I quit 8 months ago and I have never smoked again and I am very happy for that.As device I am using joyetech Ecom. I am thinking to buy istick 50w. First of all, would you recommend that device? Secondly, I have doubts about how to vape safest in terms of health with maximum possible vapour production and flavour taste. I know that the vapor production is directly proportional with the power. However, we can get the same power with different voltage and resistance settings. I would like to know which setting would be the best in terms of health. Thank you.

Howdy, welcome to the ECF.

In regards to your first question, I've heard virtually nothing but good things about the iStick 50W. I'm probably gonna pick myself up one for my RTA's and stuff.

Secondly, the only potential risk that we are aware of currently is from "burning" your e-liquid. This is only done by achieving extremely high temperatures. At this point, the juice becomes distinctly harsh, and you're likely also burning your wicking material. If your vape is very hot/harsh/doesn't taste right, it's likely you're burning your e-liquid, which we have some idea is not good for you. Beyond that, there isn't much evidence of health concerns around vaping. A lot of the concern lies in the devices, and not using batteries that are going to react explosively when pushed to their limits (also, just how about not pushing your batteries to their limits?) Additionally, there are some devices out there which I wouldn't recommend purely for safety reasons.

I'm of the mindset that vaping can't possibly be worse for me than smoking, and it's a choice between the two for me, so I'd rather vape. Maybe 10 years from now we'll find out something that we couldn't have expected, but I'm willing to take the risk because it means I'm avoiding a guaranteed early grave (if I continue smoking).

So in short, I'd recommend the iStick 50W. Maybe with something like a Nautilus Mini, or a SubTank/Atlantis if you're feeling adventurous.

Thank you for your recommendations. I think next month I am gonna buy this iStick. On the other hand, if the taste does not feel like bad or burnt it is safe, no matter what the voltage or resistance or power we are using, as I understood from your comments.

Well I mean, within reason obviously. I was just saying that by the time you're burning your juice, it'll be a pretty hard thing to ignore.

My best suggestion for figuring out voltage based on the resistance is to start at the lowest wattage and work your way up slowly. I find, on a 1.6 ohm Nautilus coil, 11W is the sweet spot. 13W+ and it seems quite easy to get a burnt/gross taste. It of course depends also on the juice you're putting in your tank, and the way that you're drawing on the tank (some people take short, light pulls, while other people take deep, long pulls).

So, if I am going to vape around 10-15 watts. Then iStick 30W would be enough for me. Does it have any benefits of having 50W besides battery life?

A 50watt mod is a good choice if you plan to vape on subohm and high wattage coils. Vapor production is NOT proportional to the amount of power applied to the coil.. In fact vapor production increases as the SURFACE AREA of the coil increases..... The only reason you need high wattage mod, is because it takes a lot of power to push electricity down a dense metal pathway. Also contrary to popular belief is NOT increase with more clouds. Max flavor does not require max cloudage, Max flavor require an optimal BALANCE of power, coil, air flow and juice availability. That balance can be achieved at lower power levels.

Example, My dripper with a subohm coil does make more steam and flavor than my Kayfun at 2ohm....... While my Kayfun does give less vapor and flavor. That flavor is better tasting from the lower power setup.

You experience may vary.

Not really, but if you wanted to upgrade to a dripper setup in the future you might find that 30W isn't quite enough power.

It's your decision, and depends on what you see yourself moving to in the future (maybe you'll just stick with a tank forever, and never need more than 15W), but I personally would skip the 30W and go straight to the 50W, primarily for the battery life, but also because (if you decide to sub-ohm eventually) you're probably going to want more than 30W to do it.

    Voltage / Wattage / Ohm aren't what creates a / Health Issues

    Temperature (dry hits) does that.
It's just as easy to get a dry hit with a high resistance coil at low wattage as it is to get a dry hit with a low resistance coil at high wattage.

So while it's a good idea to keep your powder dry, you want to keep your wicks wet.

First of all, I thank you all for your comments and recommendations. Now I need a tank and liquid recommendations for iStick 50W. I have been using Joyetech liquids.

For the tank, I'd recommend either an Aspire Nautilus/Nautilus Mini, or an Aspire Atlantis/Kanger Subtank (if you want to go the sub-tank route). The benefits of the subtank are more clouds, and potentially more flavor (kind of debatable really).

For the e-liquids there are a lot of potential recommendations. I'm not sure which companies will ship to your country, but I really like MtBakerVapor. You can use the coupon code "beefcake11" for 11% off your entire order. For more premium e-liquids, I'd recommend checking out Nicoticket. You can use the coupon code "20PERCENT4ECF" (not 100% that coupon code still works) for 20% off your entire order at Nicoticket. They have a pretty good reputation on this forum, and it's understandable -- a lot of their e-liquids are really great. They require slightly longer steep times than, say, MtBakerVapor, but the quality is totally their. Frenilla, their in-house vanilla extract, really kicks .... So does Sure Bert, if you're more into fruity flavors.
