The Land of Confusion
I am in the minority here, as I voted that they should not be allowed. Like it or not, most e-cigs do have a slight smell. In the recirculated air of an airplane this might cause some discomfort to others. I was a considerable smoker and try to do the same when I vape. I don't think airplanes are a place it should be allowed.

I'm really conflicted about this poll for a couple of reasons:

My husband vapes a few juices that have a very unpleasant smell IMHO. True, it doesn't last long, but I could easily see someone objecting. This wouldn't be a problem in the waiting area, but in the confined space of an airplane even a person's bad breath or BO can be very uncomfortable for people in a confined space.

There is a LOT of ignorance out there about exactly what eCigs are. We experience and read often about people having coughing fits from the eCig vapor simply because they THINK it's cigarette smoke. This will go away as people learn about vaping, but in the meantime, who needs a nasty scene in an airport where people are already nervous? Maybe we could help the cause by not calling them eCigs, just get rid of the "cigarette" label completely. I've taken to exclusively referring to my PV and even avoid the word smoke. I vape my PV and never smoke my eCig. To be considerate I don't hesitate to ask permission to use my Personal Vaporizer because even if they say no, at least I've made a point and possibly educated them a bit.

Although I don't believe vaping in a plane is harmful to anybody, for now I would stealth vape inside the plane if I had to, or simply go into the lavatory to avoid problems. A smoker could never get away with that!

Added my vote though I don't think it will ever make a difference. As to some of the posts on vapor smells being offensive, yes I agree but on that note Shouldn't everything that another finds offensive be banned. IE perfumes, B.O. Bad Breath...etc I can't tell someone not to breathe because their breath is making my eyes tear, so I don't think they should be able to tell me not to use my pv because they don't like the smell.

Umm, actually there have been times I'd like to tell someone to stop breathing because my eyes are tearing! At least an offensive vape smell dissipates quickly! Really though, these days people are too quick to ban anything and everything. What we have here is a lack of tolerance!
