Evening dudes and dudettes,

I've been looking around for a variable voltage mod, or at least variable batteries. Right now I've got my eye on the Megalodon, because it seems reasonably priced and takes pretty much anything. Looks fairly snazzy too. But then there's also the Galileo from esigshop.com, which looks even better. It's just a damned shame it's all in... Italian? I'm running it through Google Translate's site translator, and it's working remarkably well. But I've still got some questions, and even though I'm almost positive nobody here will have this mod, I'll ask anyway.

Does this thing have any sort of built-in protection? It's all fine and dandy when using protected Liion's, but the IMR's can still vent violently when shorted out (I've heard). Does the Don have any sort of built-in protection for that matter?

Do you need to buy an extra sleeve to run it at 6V or pop in the 18650 batt? I don't see it mentioned anywhere if the base kit includes the longer sleeve too.

How is it? I can't find a single review on this thing.

And on a more general note: why does the UK have exactly diddley variable voltage mods? I mean 'real' ones like the Provari or the Darwin. I'd import one from the States, but the customs would rip my wallet a new one if it got held up. Or they'd put me on a no-fly list. Why? Imagine the following:

You're a customs officer, just doing your job checking packages at random. You've never heard of an ecig before in your life, because over here in Europe it's pretty small. You grab a box, open it, and see this:

You couldn't make this look more like a bomb even if you tried. Also: Sweet Jebus I want a GRIP mod.

Good luck mate!

All I can say is that I recently flew with my Darwin, which looks like a detonator for your bomb there and had no trouble what so ever. If you contact one of these companies by phone, pay by credit and arrange your own shipping, I'm sure you could get someone to ship to you. The risk will be yours, but if you get that dream mod you're looking for I promise the rewards will out weigh the stress!

Good luck!

Yeah, I was exaggerating a bit, they probably wouldn't stop the package from being sent on. But the problem with importing is that if my package is, randomly, picked for a check I'll be getting a bill attached for roughly 25% of what I already paid for it. Including shipping, mind you. Not just the retail price, oh no. 21% taxes and ~4% importing rights (or whatever) on top of the total sum I already paid. There's a bigger chance my package will go through without anyone ever even looking at it, but if they do I'm out another $35 or more. And that's when it's been sent to me by someone who knows the ins and outs of importing stuff. You can't just send a package across the pond like you'd send one nationally, there's forms and other bs to take care of if you don't want to get stuck with fines or lose your package to Customs Limbo.

I could ask that they put on the box it's only worth $20, and this being a pretty rare item there's a good chance the customs officer would believe it. But if he doesn't, he gets to put a price on it himself. Ok, I'm not entirely sure if he just gets to pick a number at random, or if he checks against a list of similar items and picks what seems best. But who knows what a cranky underpaid employee's gonna value it at, especially when there is no list with similar items. Also, added fines for lying no doubt.

So until more UK or EU vendors start carrying US mods my selection is quite limited, or in the true VV mods' case, non-existent. Unless one of you US-based vapers are planning on taking a trip to Belgium or something and want to take one with you to pop in the mail when you get here? :p

In any case, I think I'll go with the Megalodon. Which brings me to another question: batteries. Yes, there's tons of info out there, and I've read most of it. But I've still got a few specifics:

Are there High Drain non-IMR batteries out there? So good old-fashioned Li-ion (LiCo to be more precise I think) batts with a nice PCB to protect from shorting out and undervolting when vaping? AW only has High Drain IMR or protected non-High Drain Li-ions. So, do they not exist? I really like the High Drains, but I also like to vape until my batteries die without having to worry about actually killing them, or shorting them when I screw in an atty too tight. I could deal with just recharging them every other day or something to make sure they'd never run too dry, but I seriously don't want to deal with IMRs when I accidentally short them. Maybe a PCB-protected IMR High Drain? Any of those out there?
