Let's back the truck up here!

I am using the usb manual switch pen from David Yang (which I love, btw; will do more of a review on it soon).....but I didn't know this:

"I don't bother plugging my USB cord in, I just recharge the battery and swap it over when needed. That way I'm not tied to a computer but the wire can sometimes get in the way.

You can get replacement batteries here - DealExtreme: $4.32 Ultra Fire 10440 3.6V 500mAh 2Pack

This is the charger I use - DealExtreme: $12.58 Ultra Fire 10440 14500 Ac Charger"

This was posted on another thread by Kate. I had no idea the battery ran it if you took it off the USB port. Just tried it....it was great!

This means I could use it in my car with no adapter, if I wanted to. Then just replace that little battery in the box with a rechargeable one when it dies. Is this correct?

Well how long does that rechargeable battery last? I mean, how hard could this be? I take it with me in my car along with what...one or two of those little batteries? Christ, I could carry those in my pocket!

So what is the deal with this rechargeable battery? And why the heck can't someone just make one with a short line and battery box? I mean, you wouldn't want to use it in public but at least you wouldn't have to worry about batts dying every couple of hours....and if they did, you could have 3 more sittin' in the charger...or in your pocket!

I really need to know more about this and how long such a battery lasts.

Kate?

Hi Lu

I use my Kissbox that way most of the time and rotate the batteries in the charger. The only awkward thing about it is the wire dangling but that doesn't bother me much.

The batteries I'm using are a good two months old at least and they last on a full charge for two to three hours. They lasted longer when they weren't so used but I haven't bothered replacing them yet.

"...why the heck can't someone just make one with a short line and battery box?"

Janty plans to bring out a new product in 2009. It will be a box with a switch that takes these batteries and a standard classic atomiser. You might be able to see a picture of it here - *E-Cigtest, the ultimate electronic cigarettes review site and forum*

It looks like a winner to me ... manual switch, cheap, easily replaceable batteries and standard size atomisers. Hopefully it won't be massively expensive

My gawd....ya learn something new every day on this forum!

Thanks so much for the answer Kate. So these would take only rechargeable lithium batts? I'll tell ya...I know nothing about batteries. I thought the rechargers were Ni something (lol)....thought lithium were just stronger batts than alkaline. Good Lord!

I couldn't see the link you posted because I'm not a member there (yet) but I am looking forward to the Janty 2009 line. The one you mentioned particularly interests me. Sounds ideal for me!

Thanks again. Really glad I saw that old post now :thumb:

I can't advise about batteries Lu, I don't know much about them. That's why I'm happier when it's nice and simple, I stick with the lithium ones from Dealextreme and that charger in the link which is supposed to be pretty safe.

I've been reading a little about your quest for batteries, usb connections and whatever and am glad to not be dealing with the same problems. If it's not simple with power I don't have a clue ;)

That's what I need vaf! How did you do that??? You better patent that, real quick :D

Lu

you can find in the forum many solution with different house for batteries (mostly from flashlights), this one i did fast out of Janty usb, but it still some "homework"; there 2 small screw to open box for the battery, than you take wire to usb out and from other end drill a bit bigger hole to feet to diameter of battery, than you have to cut the usb/battery part (just leave 1 cm). i fix the end of the battery with the hot glue inside the "black box" and connect the wires (soldering).
but again -you can use different houses for battery ..
for example this one is feet very well DealExtreme: $3.20 Mini 18000mcd LED Flashlight (1*AAA)

I am so lost when it comes to all of this...but you guys who think of these things are just brilliant!

Thanks for the explanation vaf!

Lu
I'm a little lost too !
Really enjoy this great quest of yours to know everything that would make the USB e-cigs just perfect ..wall chargers, car chargers :thumb:..

So with the rechargeable batteries, does this mean we now don't need any USB wall or car chargers and walk around with a dangling wire instead?
But if these are useful does Deal Extreme also have USB car/wall chargers ?

Misty, with David's manual switch, you do not really need any other adapters. It has a little box attached with a rechargeable battery in it so you can plug it into your usb and use it....or you can walk around the house with the wire dangling and it still works because of that battery.

I just learned today that that battery is rechargeable so in essence, if you get extra batteries and a recharger, no, you would not have to use any other adapter (unless you wanted to of course).

My cheapo usb does not have the battery box so if I want to use that in another way, I would have to get some type of adapter (ie, for the car or wall outlet). The ones I have didn't work so on others' suggestions, I have ordered more powerful ones of both of those for my cheapo USB. Still haven't gotten them but will let you know if they work.

Hi Lu,
Here are a couple of links to some options to use with your "cheapo" USBs. This is what I plan to do when I get mine. You can use regular rechargeable batteries in them - the kind you find at Walmart.

Nic,

That battery charger is what I have. I tried it with regular alkaline batteries and it wasn't strong enough. I am looking into some rechargers at walmart now.

Also, I FINALLY found the car charger and a wall charger that work with the cheapo too. Well dnakr really found them; I ordered them, received them yesterday and they work! They were 1000 mah and I imagine they will work with the Puresmoker usb too.

They also work with my new manual switch from David so for the time being, I am finally set with alternate power sources for my usb pens. That's all I've been using these days...have had the same unused battery sitting on the charger for almost 2 days! Think I should take it off? lol

I can post the link to those if anyone is interested.

That is wonderful news, Lu. would you please post the link. I am awaiting the usb battery from Puresmoker and am gathering every bit of info I can on alternate power sources.
