Ditto. She seems very light on facts and specifics. And I don't think I've ever heard someone who knows about or uses electronic cigarettes refer to them as "vapor sticks".

Actually that is what they are called most in Germany. Most the people I know here have stopped using anything even remotely resembling a reminder of a cigarette. Like the name or what ever to be sure that the two are separated. Calling it an E-Cig is like hanging a sign off your neck. Shoot me I look a bank robber and then walking into the 1st national.

I just don't really get the fight against "e-cigarettes". I am new to this and just having found out about and starting using a month ago. BUT I has a 1-2 pk a day smoker for 27 years. I am so sick from smoking I literally have to wake up early so I can cough for awhile before I can even start getting on with my day. I have tried, gum, zyban, the patch and chantix. THIS is the only thing that allowed me to quit. I couldn't even make it half a day with the rest. I have been telling everyone I know about vaping.
To me it's almost like a cure from smoking and I can't believe that doctors and news reporters are not shouting off the rooftops about this! I just don't get it.

Oh yes, it boggles the mind. The only explanation that makes sense is that it is about the money, even though at first glance that sounds like a loony conspiracy theory. Strange that organizations that have been after us for years to stop smoking are fighting this tooth and nail: The American Lung Association, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, and Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids are the ring-leaders. They have even sent out a "Policy Statement" to all their local chapters urging them to introduce and support local legislation to ban sales.

All of these orgnizations receive sizable financial support from pharmaceutical companies that manufacture the not-very-effective approved treatments for smoking cessation and/or distributions from the tobacco settlement funds. So the mad merry-go-round that they have smokers on is profitable for them. We smoke, get treatment, relapse, smoke, get treatment, relapse, etc., etc. Big Pharma makes money when we buy the treatment products, and Big Tobacco makes money when we relapse.

The only other explanation I can think of is that the leaders are pure evil who don't care if we die. So I guess the less paranoid explanation is the follow-the-money conspiracy theory.

Isn't Vapor Sticks an actual brand, a DSE808 that looks like a white & tan cig with an automatic batt and non-refillable cartridges to keep the user coming back to buy more of them? Ya'know, the model shown in the photo with the article? It totally makes sense that this would be the first mass-marketed e-cig and that it would be introduced via WalMart. I am so not surprised.

Well if anyone can get stuff through Customs it would be walmart. These guys are masters at Chinese imports and I would bet that their shipments rarely get a second look. Unlike the small internet Companies we are dealing with. These poor guys trying to run a small mom and pop business have red flags all over the place and the FDA is just looking for packages to them. I guess money talks!

Well, to be fair, when I first heard about PVs from a friend of mine online, the first thing I did was call around to local businesses. And my natural first place to start was calling wal mart. I have a feeling I'm not the only one doing so. I got them at a local smoke shop, tried them, enjoyed them, then invested heavily online.

I could see lots of people using Wal Mart as a gateway, and it could be very good for the vaping "culture." (Or introduce so many people it gets watered down and isn't a culture anymore hehe)

DawnsDone, welcome to the world of big money. E Cigs are not developed and marketed by any of the big boys, strike 1 (currently that is, but give BT a chance), a lot of people stand to lose a lot of money if E Cigs are successful (BP, ?non-profit?"health" associations, local, state and federal government), strike 2. The FDA is throwing all their weight into the final strike, but so far they've missed the plate twice with their third pitch in windup.

You'll get used to it if you hang around here long enough. The way it sounds, you will. If E Cigs don't get you where you want to be, there are other avenues available. I can let you know, I was 43 years a 2-3 pack a day smoker. I went 7 months at around 6 cigs a day and in 30 days I'll be puff free for a year. When I started this journey I didn't even have a desire to quit. Go figure.

Of course it's about the money.Big tobacco wants theirs, pharma theirs- selling drugs, patches, pills and on and on.Then there's the cash strapped states.Cigarette tax revenue is cash cow.I'm sure they realize most are buying online and out of state,so they're not getting sales tax revenue.
Thay don't give a damn about anyones health,it's ALL about the $$$$$$$
