Any idea if it's available in Canada? I just read some issues with getting things shipped to Canada...

If your intention is for him to quit...Perhaps you should be aiming to add vaping to his habit. Suggest the ecig be used for convenience. Midnight, after a snuggle..."Stay in bed and use the Ecig." Concert or sporting event? Why miss more then you have to. Boss not liking all the smoke breaks? use the e-cig.
Point is, it has to be his choice to quit. If you place expectations on your "GIFT", you WILL be disappointed. Give it, encourage it. If he picks it up, okay. If not, don't let it kill your relationship. You are BOTH adults. He likes to smoke, help him to enjoy an ecig when he can't have a real one.

I suggest a Cig-a-likestarter kit(bloog,Smoklessimage, etc.) Look for two batteries about 10 or 15 assorted flavor cartomizers and expect to spend in the $60-$80 shipped.

Build your own kit.

2 VarVolt batteries, i.e. EGo Twist/Spinner. $25.00 each
1 Charger. $10.00
1 Carrying Case. $7.00

A few delivery devices, i.e. Mini Nova, Stardust, CE4/5, Kanger T3. $4 to $8 each.

Juice, lots of non-tobacco flavors to start at about 18mg nicotine and 50/50 PG/VG... a nice Sample Pack would work. $20.00

Get matching colors or Chrome/Stainless Steel. You know what he likes. :)

Thanks Izan. He actually wants to quit. It was his idea to get the e-cigs. I'm just helping by buying it for him and doing the research on what the best brand might be. He's down to 2 cigs a day right now. Just not sure what the best one is to get for someone in his position.

Thanks for all the suggestions Mustang. I'm so new to this that I actually have no idea what most of you're suggesting means lol. I'll research each one of them.

A budget would really help, there is a huge difference between what you can get him for $100 and $500...

To see if he likes it, this sounds funny, visit a gas station ask them if they sell disposable ecigs. They arent the best but it will let him see if he likes the idea of it in practice.

Volt seems to be the best liked cig style
The ego tiwists seem to be the best liked entry device
Lavatube clones (the young june and lrider) seem to be the most liked low end tube mods
The vv gripper/Ovale v8 seem to be the most liked low end box mods (I would avoid the v8 can be a bit problematic with the connector)
The bolt seems to be the most liked low end non variable voltage mod

High end stuff:
Cant go wrong with a provari set up
The Reo is a well recived box mod
Zmax version 2 (with the 8th menu) is well received

The benefit to the higher end stuff is its going to last longer and not be out grown as fast.

As far as juices, I personally wouldn't recommend a non RY4 tobacco. Heavy flavors help at first (while you are getting your sense of taste back) after that many people prefer lighter flavors like fruit. Avoid savory flavors like bacon, great for novelty but not good all day long.

Hope this helps and good luck and thanks for supporting him I know it was a bit problematic when my wife didn't support me vaping at first.

Thanks Nitro! That's a lot of suggestions. I'll start checking them out. Just one quick question. When people talk about "vaping", do you just mean the act of smoking an e-cig?

Oh yea, my budget would be under $100...

Two eGo Twist batteries 1000 mah - $52 AltSmoke.com | Personal Vaporizers | Electronic Cigarette | Ecigs | AltSmoke.com | eGo-C Twist Battery

One eGo USB charger - $8 AltSmoke.com | Personal Vaporizers | Electronic Cigarette | Ecigs | eGo Series - USB Battery Charger - eGo - Starter Kits

One eGo USB/AC wall adaptor - $8 AltSmoke.com | Personal Vaporizers | Electronic Cigarette | Ecigs | eGo-C - USB Wall Adapter - Chargers - Accessories
___

three Clearomizers - $15 AltSmoke.com | Personal Vaporizers | Electronic Cigarette | Ecigs | Vision Clearomizer - AltSmoke

$85 for bare essental hardware setup. The two batteries together will last all day (see video link). The clearomizers last 2 weeks each, fill with e-juice after removing the mouthpiece (see video).

All you then need is the e-liquid with nicotine strength of 12-18mg. Figure on using 3 ml a day.

I recommend getting juice someplace that offers sampler flavor packs to avoid wasting money on larger individual bottles that he may not like; buy more of the flavors he likes. Example website:

Vaperite | E Liquid Flavors and Organic E Cigarette Liquid 6 - 3ml sample flavors for $20.

http://www.virginvapor.com/collections/organic-e-liquid 3 - 4ml sample flavors $12

Hi Pinkybo,
Wecome and expect alot of good ideas. First, a kit is going to be cheaper. Second, variable voltage is nice, but costs more and may be harder for a newbe to understand. While i have nothing but good things to say about my Joyetech batteries, and those are the real Joyetech at Altsmoke, ive also bought some Kgo kits for guys at work, based on the words of veterans here. For $43 you can get a nice kit from Welcome to hoosier ecig supply - The Best E-cigs, Juices, and accesories.

Thanks everyone. To be honest, putting together something custom is a little daunting right now, since I don't even know how it all works. A kit is definitely more appealing right now. A decent one of course. If it turns out he really likes it, he can always upgrade. Right now I don't even know what e-liquid is or clearomizers are. I'm assuming it turns into the stuff you smoke?

Here you go Pinkybo, I made this for someone else, but it may help you also. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/cartomizers/343294-proper-terminology-carto-tank-what-lol.html#post7562212

All of these "attachments" screw on the battery. They hold the e-liquid and also have the heating coils within them that causes the liquid to become vapor. They all work a little differently, and everyone has their own preference of which one they like more.

E-liquid, e-juice, or joose, usually has a mixed ratio of both pg and vg. Both are common substances found in food and medical products. Flavoring is added so that when it is heated into a vapor we can enjoy tobacco, menthol, fruit, candy, coffee, deserts, etc. in our vape.

Ahhh, yes. It is NOT smoke, but vapor. That is why we say we are vaping, to differentiate us from cigarette smokers.

Yep.
Cigarettes produce smoke, the act of using one is called smoking.
Ecigs produce vapor, the act of using one is referred to as vaping =)

Sorry for the wall of text but hope this helps.

Price point $100, dont know if these are the cheapest you can get these but some quick references:
Variable Volt Gripper Kit is a gripper style just add juice and go.
Chrome Lambo 4.0 with Resistance Checker | Variable Voltage Ecig is a tube style, again juice and go.
http://www.mountainoakvapors.com/MOV-eGo-Twist-1100-mAh-Full-Kit-Color-Options-p/ego-twist-kit.htm are ego styles, again juice and go.

Check out VaporSearchUSA see if there is a vape shop near you, as long as it is not one that only sells little cig-like ones they can probably give you some really good advice too. Some will even let you try out hardware/juice in store.

Batteries: The mah rating on a battery is how long it will last, a good idea is 1 hour per 100mah so for a 10 hour day you are looking at 1000mah This will vary device to device but its a pretty good generic estimate.

Juice: Start out with small sample kits... In my opinion avoid ones that try to replicate the brand he smoked, it is nearly impossible to reproduce the flavor of burning leaves and after the first week or 2 he will realize cigarettes actually taste bad. Baditude is right on about 3ml per day some people use more some people use less, one thing I would add after he finds out what he likes is always keep a reserve of 30 ml of juice, assuming shipping takes a week, you want to have enough to last you until you can get some more juice

MaddCatt 6ml 5 Pack Sampler Bundle I love this place all the juices I have tried from there have been right on, RYW4 is my current "all day vape" (a juice I use all day long) it is a sweet kind of tobaccoish non menthol.
ECBlend E-Liquids - Something Better Another place I have ordered from, their flavors take a bit to wake up (this is called steeping) so probably wouldn't be my first place to order from but what is nice is their small bottles are only $2.50 so you can get a wide variety of flavors on the cheap. The flavors I have got from here have been hit or miss, some are great, some are not so great but juice is all in personal taste something I may love your BF may hate and vice versa.

I could go on all day but http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...st-e-liquid-supplier-best-sample-packs-3.html is a thread suggesting sample packs

Something you are probably going to encounter is VG/PG ratio and nic Strength:
VG/PG - VG is thick, can dull the flavor some, produces more of the "smoke" you see; PG is thinner will still produce some "smoke", some say it delivers the flavor better, produces more "throathit" I would start with what ever the site recommends or a 50/50 mix till he knows more what he likes.

Nic strength- this will be presented either as mg or as a percentage. When I started vaping I used a 24mg/2.4% juice, currently I use a 16-18mg/1.6%-1.8% juice... the higher strength made it easier for me to switch because the nic in ecigs dont have the extra chemicals to make your brain realize it as fast. The higher strength made my body "ask" for it less. Reducing my strength has made it quite a bit easier on my throat while still providing a satisfying feeling now that my body is adjusted to the added time it takes my brain to realize its getting some.

To see more vendors if you click on Forum Suppliers it will take you to a place where you can check out a bunch of different shops.
Hope this all helps

I agree with Izan. It's a great gift for him, but he has to be ready. I smoked for 14 years at 10 packs a week, and loved it. I got the eGO-C at Vapor Kings and yesterday was 6 weeks strait without a cigarette. The cost was about $30. I'm sure with all the years he's been smoking, quitting cigarettes has crossed his mind a few times. If he's expressed that he's looking to quit then it might be a good idea for both of you to look at devices together, and then when you pick one out, buy it for him. I've noticed so many positive things from quitting (health, self-esteem, etc). Plus he can join ECF and get tons of support and info here.
