I started vaping for the money savings over analogs, and I know the ultimate savings and dialing in the best flavors will be from DIY.

Just wondering where the best place to start is, where is the best place to source the ingredients.

Just a heads up, I like 24mg, about 10%VG, and while the sweets are nice in small quantities, my all day vape is Turbosmog from my freedom smokes, I like the tobacco flavors.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Alot recommend RTS Vapes for their Nic base. I have just ordered from them and will be trying it. Waiting on it to show up.

As far as flavors go, I get all mine from One Stop DIY Shop. Great people and great service. There are alot of vendors out there that sell flavors. However these are the two that I use most frequently.

For nic I like VoidMist, generally solid prices, good product, though I picked up some GoodProphets nic during the recent sale.
TPA, previously mentioned, is good for flavorings. I use their tobacco blend alc for non-PG mixes, goes well with vanilla/black cherry/..., and their tobacco absolute diluted is great to punch up tobacco flavors.
Try Natures Flavors, their Organic coffee flavorings, if you want non-PG based.
Seedman Commercial cigarette concentrate (concentrate, not diluted) is a really nice tobacco base flavor, at 10 - 15% (I tend towards 15%). Available from Seedman, BlueMist, not sure who else.
Capellas has some decent flavorinngs.
If you ever want to try some menthol, TPA or VoidMist menthol liquid concentrate is cheap, easy to use. Others work right with the menthol crystals (even cheaper), but I like the consistency I get with the prepared liquid.
FaeriesFinest has some decent non-PG based mints.

what strength nic should I use to make a 24mg juice?

I know if I got 100mg nic then I would use MUCH less than if I got 36, but it's all about the ratios in the finished product. Dunno if I should use 36 or 48, or if it would be more cost effective to get 100mg and some pg to dilute it

From what I have seen the 100mg is more cost effective but you have to write everything down on paper and figure out the cost per ml when your done.

CD is spot on, as usual :) I convert nic base to mg/$, how much nic am I getting for the money paid. Historically VoidMist 60mg/ml has been a really good price, though GP's recent sale on their 36mg/ml was better yet. If GP still has their really good sale (something like $6 for 120 ml of 36mg/ml), pick up some of both the VG and PG based nic, to help control the PG/VG ratio.

With 36 mg/ml nic, 24 mg/ml target, you would use two parts nic base to one part "other" (flavorings and filler PG/VG). That is plenty of room -- I peak at 25% flavoring, most things are 20% and below. With 60mg/ml nic base you use 2 parts nic base to 3 parts other (40% nic base).

Great info! And the voidmist 60mg is an amazing price. GP isn't doing the sale anymore, it's now $10 for 36mg 120ml.

I'm not too worried about the handling of the higher nic liquids, I'm an HVAC technician and am EPA certified for work with CFC, HCFC, HFC, Ammonia, Acids, and Phosgene (50ppm inhaled = fatal)

Does anyone have a basic tobacco recipe using the 60mg PG nic base to achieve a 24mg final product so I can see the dilution?

10ml of tob5:
4 ml 60mg/ml nic base (40%)
1.5 ml Seedman Commercial concentrate tobacco flavoring (15%)
0.3 ml perfumers apprentice hazelnut (3%)
2 ml VG (glycerin USP, from a drug store) (20%)
2.2 ml plain PG (22%)
2 drops perfumers apprentice tobacco absolute diluted (I don't bother counting this in the %, it's like 1/10 of an ml)

I actually always start with the final ml and mg/ml, which tells me how much nic base. In this case you want to end up with 10 ml of 24 mg/ml: 10x24 = 240mg of nic needed.

Since you have 60 mg/ml nic base, 240 mg/60 mg/ml = 4 ml of nic base needed.

15% Seedman is just what I like, others will use 10 or 12%.

Hazelnut is optional, helps for a smoother flavor. Try substituting caramel or vanilla, for a nice variation. You can also leave it out, just add more plain PG and double the amount of TA diluted (4 drops per 10 ml instead of 2 drops), to get a really firm resulting taste.

VG is to-taste. Typical for many is 20%, myself I normally mix at 25 - 30% VG.

Plain PG is just the filler. After figuring out nic base, flavoring amounts, VG to hit your desired %, the PG is what's left.

I do it like this: For 10ml at 60pg/40vg using 60mg pg nic to make 24mg at 20% flavoring I use 4ml nic base, 4ml VG, 2ml flavoring

Sounds awesome :)

I'm going to start getting my supplies together.

Just another question, on average how much is it costing per ml to DIY your juices? (amazing sales and finding a 55 gal drum of 100mg nic excluded heh)

I buy the 100mg nic juice from RTS, then cut it down to a 36mg base in two 4oz bottles. The rest of the 100mg base gets transferred to glass bottles for storage in the freezer. Much more economical than buying smaller quantities of unflavored 36mg base.

Just feel more comfortable not having to work with the 100mg stuff every time I make juices.

24 mg/ml eliquid runs me about $3.75/30ml, including the shipping costs of the materials. I tend to use organic flavorings which are kind of pricey unless you get big bottles of them, and I normally use up around 20% total flavoring, though the vendor I use has dropped shipping prices and cut their flavor prices compared to when I first bought them. So, for me it's under $4/ounce, and since I'm cutting my nic down now I'm getting closer to $3/ounce. For that I get things I really like :) (there are good vendor eliquids out there, DIY isn't for everyone).

I only bought 100 a couple times, then I did the math and switched to 60. I really like 60 since my favorite eliquids I make 60 ml at a time (US Plastics has good prices on blue PET bottles, 2 ounce and 4 ounce, just remember to buy the caps too). 60 mg/ml nic and 60 ml of liquid means I use 1ml of nic base per mg/ml desired.
