I've been using the Vamo v3, kayfun v4 tank with Panasonic 18650 button top battery for years. I'm ready to try one of these high-powered boxes, but know nothing about them. Since I have several 18650 button tops and the kayfun tanks, a box mod that works with those devices is preferred.

My wife needs a unit that will deliver a big cloud, but doesn't require a big inhale. I'd like to stick with the kayfun tank/Panasonic 18650 button top battery.

A box mod and mech is 2 totally different devices. Mech mods have no wires but all contact points which makes the device work where an unregulated box has wires and a mosfet or 2 to funnel voltage through in order not to get your fire switch. With either of these you need to research how to build coils for mechs and research battery safety. If you don’t know anything about the 2 I would say don’t even try.

There are plenty of regulated boxes out there that push up to 300W. I vape on a lipo NLPWM box I built but I would t say that would be what you want. Get a box with a DNA250 chip and that would suit you, plus being it’s regulated you wouldn’t need to build coils a certain way and you would be able to use those pre-made coils heads that China pushes out by the 1000’s. I would say that would be more what your looking for and they have the wattages that you consider “high power”, plus it’s a lot safer for her to use vs a mech or u regulated box which could be a bomb in the hands of an u experienced user.

Your Kayfuns will run on pretty much any box mod with a 510 connection, although most likely your button tops won't. Those are usually used in more specialized equipment these days, most of it older. The majority of box mods will require two, flat top 18650 batteries. The good news is, depending on your charger, it should probably be able to charge flat tops (what do you have?) and many flat tops that will probably suit your vaping applications (if you are a MTL vaper and really require more mAh than runtime, those batteries are not insanely expensive, from an approved vendor.

There are several good box mods and what you get will depend on how much power you need, do you want a DNA device that can provide accurate TC, how large or heavy you want your box mod to be. There are tons of great options, I am partial to the Eleaf Invoke, it's one of the smallest, lightest two battery mods around and doesn't sacrifice build quality in the process. Teslacigs is a company that is very reliable (based out of Britain, I believe) and they have a very efficient, smooth vape despite not having a DNA option (I don't think). Another two battery mod I love is the Smoant Cylon, great vape, lots of great features, and great handfeel. I'm also partial to Innoken generally although for the most part, I have used their tanks, but quite reliable. The options can be dizzying you may even wish to just check out some of the VW/VW and TC forums to get a sense of what is out there, what folks are liking, and what appeals to you best.

OK! I've learned that box mods typically use flat top batteries, my nitecore charger will do the job, a regulated unit is safer, great battery info. link and the kayfun tank will work on most. As ya'all said, there are a thousand choices, I just need to choose.

It looks like some units have built-in batteries where you have to plug in, set aside until charged. Don't want that; preferred unit takes batteries that I can charge using my nitecore.

I will say that my wife is not interested in all the display features (ohms, puff time, volts, etc), she only wants a great hit. She does not take it to work, so ≈3 hours in the evening and weekends would be her "use time". I don't know if she would need a one or two battery unit, I'm thinking a one battery device, and purchase ≈4 compatible batteries.
I've seen a Sigelei MT 220W TC, and it looks like the fire button is long and on the side, preferable to the small vamo "hit" button. She'd love that!

Just looked at the Sigelei again, those aren't fire buttons, just a grip. A big fire button on the side is good, that's what I want.

Which model Panasonic battery are you talking about? Some are only 4.9 amps (the NCR Panasonic 18650B). Most are only 10 amps.

The vast majority of regulated high wattage mods require batteries with a minimum 15-20 amps continuous discharge rate. You're going to have to buy new batteries. Your Panasonics are "high capacity" batteries. You're going to need "high drain, high amp" batteries. Below are some recommendations:

In the interests of keeping things simple:

-If you use a good quality 15 amp CDR battery like the Samsung 30Q or Sony VTC6, then you are good up to 45 watts per battery; 90 watts using two; 135 watts for three batteries.

-If you use a good quality 20 amp CDR battery like the LG HG2 or Samsung 25R then you are good for 60 watts per battery. If using a 2-battery regulated mod, your good for 120 watts as you have two batteries. If you are using a 3-battery mod, you're good for 180.

-If you use a single 25 amp CDR battery like the Sony VTC5A, then you are good for 75 watts per battery, 150 watts for two batteries, and 225 watts with three.

-If you use a single 30 amp CDR battery like the LG HB6 you are good up to 90 watts; with a pair of 30 amp CDR batteries you could safely do 180 watts.
