Hello everyone. I hope you all had a happy new year! I have seen, through other discussions, that the 510 stuff I have been using is like 3.2 volts or somewhere around there. I have been researching mods, but am hesitent to drop a lot of cash on something without knowing if I'll like them. What has me worried is that I got a 1.5ohm LR atty a while back and I just don't like it. I think I prefer the cooler vape of the standard 510. The 1.5 seems like it fries the juice.

Ultimately I would like to just get a VV mod so I can dial in the sweet spot, but in the mean time I was hoping for a way to test out some different voltages. I recall hearing that KR8s are a true 3.7volt device. I had bought, by mistake, some KR8 cartos when I first started. I then got an adapter and was disappointed at the lack of vapor and flavor. I got to thinking, would the KR8 cartos vape better on an actual KR8 battery putting out 3.7 volts?

Also, I recall reading that there are passthoughs that put out 5 volts. Does anyone have a recomendation for a good 5v PT?

If you're wanting to check out HV on the cheap try the 510 HV Passthrough. If you want a cheap 5v mod try 3xAA 5 Volt Boxmod, just add a pair of batt's and a charger since you've probably got some standard resistance 510 atty's. If you want to try a 3.7v mod they've got cheap boxmods in that voltage also here 2xAA Box Mod with slow change LED and red horn switch. There's also one threaded for 808 here 2xAA Box Mod with Green LED and 901/808 connector.
Going to a VV will be more expensive, but it does have advantages. You can dial in the voltage to exactly where you want it. On my 3.7v mod's I like to run 2.0 ohm LR's. 1.5's are a little too low for my taste, but work well at 3.2v, but that's my opinion.

Anyone know of a usb passthru that would allow setting different voltage? My understanding is if I want a 3.2 like my ego, then I have to get a setup that has a battery in the cord. I have a passthru that goes straight to a usb wall unit- 5volt at 2amp - But the straight usb setup runs too hot for me most of the time, so I mostly use my ego battery for vaping. I would really like a unit that could be plugged into the wall and supply say from 3 to 6 volts with no worry if I have a battery charged.

I was in the same situation as you, about a month ago. I tried the 510 LR atties and they were ok, but not what I was looking for and it was a pain, worrying about them running dry and burning up. I wanted to try 5 volts, so I got an HV passthrough from elctronicstix and a 2 amp power supply from somewhere else. Found out that I didn't need the 2 amp power supply because the USB on both my computers worked just as well. The 5 volt didn't really do it for me either. It gave the good throat hit I was looking for, but was lacking in other ways. The hit I got from the 5 volt was kind of spikey in a way and lacking fullness.
I use an ego with an ego mega atty and about half the time I get the hit I'm looking for, but still feel that I could use a little more voltage. My next step will be to get a cheap box mod from MadVapes that will give a true 3.7 volts and go from there.
You should definitely give the 5 volt passthrough a try. For the price, they are worth it. I bought two and I believe I paid ten bucks a piece, on sale. Even if you don't care for them, they are still good for backup. One thing to keep in mind about the 5 volt passthroughs is that the wire can become frayed, where it comes out of the e-cig end, but it's a simple thing to remedy.

That's a good idea. Would be cool if someone could come up with a simple variable mod for a 5v passthrough.

Hey everyone, thank you for all the replies. I went to go get the 5V PT from madvapes and they happen to be sold out at the moment. They also sell a 2amp USB wall outlet adapter for like 6 bucks. I think I'll just wait til they have their PT back in stock and just buy both from them. (i ended up blowing my budget on liquid instead! Doh!)

Mist: Thank you for the kind offer! Things have been so crazy for me lately so I'm not sure when I could plan for a meeting, but I will keep that in mind. (my plans of getting a mod keep getting pushed back, now im thinking maybe spring.) Again, thank you for your kind gesture.

No problem. I may have an Infinity VV mod by then for you to check out. Those are going to go for $110.00 for a kit with batteries and a charger. Great deal, they have a thumb wheel for voltage adjustment. I just saw pics of the first machined bodies in the NotCigs forum and they look like they're going to be pretty sweet.
