    No you can't
What can't the mta do if you don't pay up? Just curious, and I always ask myself this question when I get fined for things. Generally I can't find anything the "authority" can do and I don pay, haven't had it bite me yet

For one thing, report you to credit bureau and rune your credit. Penalties cumulate on unpaid tickets.

I ended up going to Transit Adjudiction Bureau and paying the fine. $135 total for 2 citations, one for 'smoking' on the subway platform, and the other for ignoring the no smoking sign.

I'm currently too busy with work to dedicate the time to fighting the fines, so I simply paid them. If my work schedule was less busy at the moment, I've had been inclined to fight the tickets.

Come on, you should at least write them a letter or email or something after the fact!

    Its an absurd situation...

    To the OP:

Never try to educate an MTA officer--they're not hearing it.
You can try to work it out in the courts, but I haven't really seen any sympathetic bench judges rule in favor of e-cig users yet. The one case I did see (in New Jersey), the defendant lost.

I'm not aware of anyone in New Jersey being cited for vaping, including under the New Jersey smoke-free air law that includes e-cigarettes.

I will be deeply disappointed if that did happen, as I would prefer to be the first New Jersey citizen to be cited for vaping.
