Hi Gang. I've got a device capable of pretty high wattage output, and an array of Kayfuns, a magma, etc. I just find that, with my mainly DIY and "concentrated flavorings" that I add to 6mg base in a semi-diy approach, I can't really go higher in watts than 6-8 watts without either losing all flavor or getting full-on burned flavor. So I've flat-out not understood folks saying things like "kayfun 1.2 ohm build 20 watts = perfect" -- hell, that's how I wrap my magma and kayfun and that'd wreck my vape. What the heck is going on here -- is it my 80% PG that doesn't like higher wattage? That's the only variable I can think of, but if you please, confirm or offer other input before I pull out the VG and up my ratio. I'm kind of a throat-hit junkie and feel I'm already able to get great flavor..... thx

If anything, PG should be LESS susceptible to dry burnt hits. VG is the very thick one that has trouble wicking sometimes. An 80/20 PGVG ratio should have no problems saturating the coil in just about any tank. I imagine there's something else going on, possibly in your build and wicking, thats leading you to dry hits. What is the flavoring you're using in your DIY juice, and what percentage are you mixing at? I have certain flavors that just don't wick no matter how thin the liquid is, they just seem to soak the wick tail and not travel up to the coil. Other than those two things, I can't really imagine anything else that could lead you to dry hits in a Magma or Kayfun.

Yeah this is definitely strange to me... and doesn't sound right...

I have ran pg flavorings from DIY and juices with pg added up to 50 and 60 watts and had great results in regards to flavor... Something is not right here... I will tell you I never run my kayfun higher than 13 - 14 watts, but I run all my drippers in the 30 - 60 watt range.

You might want to start with Wicking and Air flow.

As long as wicks are not allowing Flooding and are making fill Coil contact they should provide enough Flow to avoid burning at any reasonable output.
You MUST work the wicks in the Kayfun in a manor that allows good Air Flow around the coil. You must also avoid any blocking of the liquid channels that would result in reduced flow.

You have not specified or shown any of your builds clearly so it is hard to make positive recommendations.
You also did not clarify your Power device. A Y.J. Lava tube puts out a ton of power.......Due to piss poor regulation and it ruins a vape at 3.3v. At 4v+ it works properly.......Go figure!

Thanks guys. I don't know what happened to the reply I attempted to put out in between replies 2 & 3 about how its not burning the wick (=flow/wicking problem) but rather making the juice taste ....ty. Still saturated feeling, but ....ty tasting. I think I'll just embrace my low wattage vaping persona, it certainly tracks with my intellectual capacity.
