According to the 'Bill', the only problem we'll have is with "tobacco Products"...I'll bet you'll still be able to buy a pipe or cigarette holder in the future, anywhere! So, the e-cig 'industry', with little or no foresigt, has done itself and us a great dis-service by touting their products as
"e-cigarettes". Those who have expressed a preferred "Personal Vaporizer" or "PV" have the right idea. If all the current manufacturers, distributors, suppliers, etc., were to quit all reference to cigarettes, in ANY form, we'd be over half-way home to acceptance and availability. Is it too late for them all to quit the reference to 'tobacco', 'cigars' or 'cigarettes'? Can we all contact and convince everyone involved to start using ONLY 'PV' or any other term? We should be able to buy from all our suppliers now, if there is no nicotine involved, and it's NOT labeled with ANY reference to 'tobacco', 'cigars' or 'cigarettes'

Obviously, that still leaves the problem of obtaining the e-liquids we all want, but that's a much smaller battle...we don't have to defend or 'qualify' the devices! It should be much easier to sell the e-liquids by getting China, Johnson-Creek, et al, to have their products tested and certified by the FDA. Not easy, certainly, but much less involved if the delivery devices are not part of the certification process, and they needn't be, as they are NOT "TOBACCO PRODUCTS".

As has been mentioned, all suppliers should refrain from the white PV's... they only add fuel to the fire, so to speak. Let's quit antagonizing the opponents.

Is it too late to turn this around, even a little? Comments? Ideas?

Thank you so much for posting this! I have been saying this for months.

Fortunately a few suppliers are getting the message. Some are still stuck in their ways.

I also agree with the white pv's that look like a cigarette. Maybe someone could design some great wraps to conceal the original paint?

By the way, who is Waxman Bill?

I don't care what we call them now that I have bought my own. However, I would never have searched for or found this product had it been called a vaporizer. My guess is that most people on the forum would not have been interested in it had the description been clouded and unrecognizable as a cigarette-like device. Had I seen a reference to vaporizer, I would have simply moved past the ad or story, thinking it to be about drugs. Sorry, but if we want regular people who are interested in e smoking to have mainstream access to them, then you have to call it what it is. I have no interest in hiding in the shadows vaping away anymore than I have an interest in smoking out by the dumpster. I am neither ashamed of being a smoker, nor am I ashamed of vaping. I simply am what I am....a non-denormalized smoker. Euphemisms rarely work.

The problem is that you need to market these thing as a 'cigarette alternative vaporizer.'

You need to be positioned like nicogel: Nicogel Home - Nicogel Nicotine Replacement Gel Online Information - Nicogel is here!

No we aren't a drug, we don't treat anything. We aren't an NRT. We are not regulated by the FDA.

The further you stray from traditional tobacco products the easier it is for the FDA to step in.

You seriously are the man George. Seriously.

I just revived http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/nicotine/8828-nicotine-fda.html because I simply cannot find where the FDA controls nicotine if you don't make any health claims.

Maybe you all had better review the Bill in Congress...the Waxman Bill. It's available on the internet for review. If the bill passes, and I'll bet it will, the FDA WILL CONTROL ALL "TOBACCO PRODUCTS", and nicotine is listed as one of those! Our 'Smoking Devices' would NOT be under FDA, and would be like hookahs, ashtrays and cigarette holders.

There was someone here yesterday complaining that making PVs in black and other colours was appealing to OMG think of the children 8-o

Personally I don't think it's a big deal, but if I had to choose I'd side with you.

BINGO! They actually had to write a bill that gives the FDA permission to control nicotine WHICH MEANS... da da da da! They do not have it right now. Period.

Still can't find it. Wow. My next blog post is kind of brutal. Can't wait to publish it.

Didn't they try to get control via some blanket "intended to alter bodily structure" statement? I forget the exact wording but that was the gist of it. Looked like a flimsy excuse for a power grab to me.

I wonder if that includes perfume? Seriously. I know it sounds ridiculous, but some body sprays say that they contain pheromones which have been studied to chemically alter the bodies response, specifically for sexual desire. Can you imagine where this heads? You would have to have an Rx to buy perfume!

I am still combing through the amazing 177 page pdf of the Waxman bill. We had a good laugh over here though. It is no wonder our taxes are so high considering how much time it must take to write 177 pages of crap. ;)

Some perfumes I've smelled you should need a dangerous weapons permit to use. Musk, for example, is the nuclear option in the sex wars.

I'm with you about the volume of garbage in the regulations though - you must have the patience of a saint to read through them.
