House passes bill giving FDA power over tobacco ads, sales - CNN.com
CNN doesn't understand how this type of control in the FDA's hands would affect people like us. With the passing of this bill, e-cigarettes would fall under the direct control of the FDA. While I would love to believe that the FDA has my best interests at heart, I know that is totally untrue. They are in the pocket of RJ Reynolds and pharmaceutical companies who want their products promoted. Companies that have no interest in us having safer smoking alternatives.
This legislation has PASSED in the house of representatives, and is now headed to the floor of Congress. If we fail to stop this measure, it will head to Obama's desk for his signature.
This must be stopped.
My friend and I have devised one campaign we want to persue, and we need your help. Part of the problem of this legislation is that WE are not being represented. We are nameless, voiceless and faceless. The people who are going to vote on this do not know we exist.
So here's my request for your help. I would like for everyone to create a 30-45 second video explaining what e-cigs mean to you, and why the FDA must be stopped from taking away our freedoms just to fill the coffers of cigarette companies. We want our representatives to know that we believe the recent siezure of e-cigarette products was an illegal and unconstitutional action by the FDA. Also, that we have a right to freedom, and that freedom includes the right to choose a safer alternative to smoking or dangerous drugs. We know that smoking kills. We know that the drugs to help us quit kills. The FDA says that we can't have e-cigarettes because we don't know how dangerous it MIGHT be. Compared to the alternatives.....GIVE ME MY DAMN E-CIG!!
Once you have created your video, upload it to youtube and post the link here, or email it (the link...not the video) to mvancil at gmail dot com.
We will be compiling the videos to be sent to congress before the vote.
The Family Smoking Prevention and tobacco Control Act, which now moves to the Senate for further consideration, would allow the FDA to restrict the marketing of tobacco and ban candy-flavored cigarettes.
It would also allow the agency to regulate nicotine and other ingredient levels, as well as force greater disclosure of the contents of tobacco products.
