I use my paypal debit card for all my online purchases, not once in the 5 years I've owned this card have I once had a compromising issue. I've bought from a lot of ecig suppliers in the last month. Not one red flag.

I don't know if I'm just super freakin lucky or it's paypal but I'm going to bet it's paypal because not even 100 rabbit foots could help my luck

yes ur prepaid paypal debit card works, that's what ive been doing since first cc got hacked. I just don't have the "bank account back up" I put what I need in the pp acct, then use my prepaid paypal debit card.

After I had an issue a few years ago, I got a couple of prepaid debit cards JUST for online purchases, and I never keep more than a few hundred dollars on it at any time. Since I've been doing that, I've never ever had one problem. It's a perfect firewall to my bank accounts, doesn't affect my credit rating, and the loss is minimized. I use American Express prepaid and Chase Liquid, both have excellent service.

As an I.T. guy, who sees virus laden computers on a regular basis, I have to also encourage those who have had identity theft issues to make sure your PC isn't infected with a key logger or some other form of malware. I'm not saying you are. But, it's another plausible way for your personal information to end up in the wrong hands.

I couldn't agree more. That hasn't happened to me, and I'm always checking. How they got me was far more mundane: I ordered Chinese takeout and paid via credit card. It was just after Sandy hit and my bank's ATMs were down so I used my credit card for everything. The next day, Chase called me about $5000.00 worth of charges to Chinese websites, and an attempt to get another $5000.00 in cash advances. Luckily I didn't lose anything, but it was a startling lesson. Since then, I use those prepaid debit cards and withdraw cash from my checking account to refill them. It's all good that way.

I use PayPal for some things, eBay, mainly, and only because they have a monopoly and have basically locked out any other method, but that's another story.

The reason I don't use them for everything, even the card, goes back to when I first got that PayPal card and basically learned that there just weren't enough merchants for me to use it at the time. Maybe it's different now. Also, they've gotten really squirrelly lately, suspecting everyone of money laundering and quoting the Patriot Act every chance they get.

I think I've had cards cancelled twice (three times but one of those was legit when Walmart gave me a cheaper TV for the price of the more expensive one I asked for and the company thought it was suspicious that someone was buying 2 expensive TVs an hour apart).
One of those times was suspicious, I have no idea where or how they got the number. Another time was probably a mistake that got lucky and punched my number in by mistake.
My niece has had 2 debit cards stolen, in person.

A family member has been having problems for a year now and gets her card cancelled about every other month. She's changed banks, changed accounts and, of course, been issued new cards and yet the problem continues. The last two times, she never used the cards online and never handed the card to anyone nor gave out her security code. At this point, maybe due to paranoia at this point, she's looking closely at members of her own household and their friends who've been in her home.
