Last summer, as a smoker ... the mosquitos left me alone. In fact, they left me alone every summer as a smoker.

This summer, as a nonsmoker ... they won't leave me the heck alone!!!
#5 LOL....... I guess I havent been outside long enough to notice yet. Guess I will have to test this, NOT! :)

i just figured out why my garden is not producing veggies. ie: cucumber, zucchini, yellow squash, watermelon, 1 of the tomato plants and the orange honeydew. i dont have insects to pollinate them.
wish i had discovered this earlier: HS1149/HS398: Home Vegetable Garden Techniques: Hand Pollination of Squash and Corn in Small Gardens
now, hopefully i found it in time and i can get my lady and my boy plant parts a mating so we can grub on some produce! (get the pun?)
gonna be quite annoying to pollinate the garden.....

Maybe I can catch up to you lol... I remember it was months ago when you planted your garden, mine has been in a little over a week. Guess I've been taking all my flying stingers for granted... Planted the squash next to my house where bee's seem to have made a nest up under some clapboards. I do make a point to stop the lawnmower and let bee's finish their business on clovers before proceeding.

Is your garden outside?

[thanks guys!]
yeah outside and going strong. huge plants, no produce!
had a similar problem last year. scratch that, same problem! kept looking up remedies and was told it was too much nitrogen, not enough sun. both were wrong...
do you have experience pollination?
should i cut a single male from each plant and immediately cut the leaves of the flower and rub it (anther) all up on the girls sigma?
should i use a paint brush, q-tip, or just leave the male attached and touch it over the girls?
is it too late 'cause we are already over 100degree weather?
Factor, since you just got over your frost you most likely planted at the right time. we have to plant in march to april here.
because the small garden is so thick with foliage it will be difficult to find a place to 'plant' my feet while i tend to the forced pollination. i feel like i should light some candles and play some smooth jazz....
