Second attempt...
Washed and flamed the ekowool...
Tighter coils. Total 1.0 ohms...
Smaller loop... bigger clouds!
Washing and torching is recommended. I boil mine at least once for 15 minutes in distilled water. "Tight" is a relative term but any coil described as loose is probably not a good idea AFAIK.
I'm not sure the size of the loop matters much... anyways, great job!:thumb:

Thanks Schnarph!
Tighter as in less space between the coils, not loose to the wick...btw... ;-)

Any idea how large a hole should be bored?

what do you mean by "washing and torching" on your wicking? is it only for the ekowool stuff, or any of the wicking?

Silica, ekowool(also silica) and SS should be torched for various reasons. All wicking should be at least washed, but don't torch your natural fibers...or they'll be ash. ;-)

Air intake holes... that varies depending on taste. Single hole caps are often drilled out to 1/16th (just over 1.5mm), but that may be largely due to the PIA it is to find smaller drill bits. For 2 hole caps I make mine 1mm, it works pretty well. 2 holes at 1/16th would be way too much air for me. YMMV, obviously.

As far as torching goes, some "windproof" jet lighters will work just fine but they're not made to run for very long. I ruined one trying to torch SS mesh. A butane pen torch doesn't need to cost much. I got mine for around $5. It's a multipurpose "tool" if you have other stuff to torch. I light charcoal briquettes with mine. They all use the same butane refill cans. A crème brûlée torch is nice but often pricey. I should have just sprung for the butane soldering iron/hot knife/torch kit but I was cheap.

I had been given two of those crème brûlée torches one Christmas... I used to make an amazing crème brûlée w/ fresh berries and fresh almond-whipped-cream. Haven't revisited that dessert since my first divorce... :glare: So now I have another use for them. ;-)

edit: sooo... look for a 1mm drill bit... sounds like a good place to start. I don't like too airy a draw. (My issue with pro-tanks)

Thanks again, Schnarph!

I found some 1mm drill bits at an Ace hardware, but they didn't last long enough to make more than one new hole is a SS cap. I ordered a couple of 1mm off Amazon and they worked much better. 1mm drill bits are tiny and many SS caps are thick, it's asking a lot from them. At least you're only making existing holes larger, making new holes is hard.
