Mmmmm hot, I loooove Spike. Sexy man for his age! Doesn't look a day over his mid 20's too! Anyway, I have actually started taking some medication about 3.5 weeks ago that reduces my appetite (by aaaaaaa lot, no it's not designed for that, but it's a common side effect of it for some reason), so I will not notice any of the weight gain effects that you speak of. Wish I did though since this medication works well and I don't want to be yanked off of it because my weight keeps going down. I lost like 4lbs in 10 days. >< We don't have a scale so I'm not sure how much I have lost since the last time I went to the doctor.

ProtoType- Buffy rocks! I actually met James Leary (Clem the loose skinned demon which was on 6 eps of Buffy), Mark Lutz (from Angel, played Groo), and Andy Hallett (played Lorne on Angel, God rest his soul since he died of heart problems recently) at MidOhioCon years ago.

AWESOME!! Thanks for sharing that... awesome stuff... oh... and if that picture's really you... gotta say... you're really very pretty. Just thought I'd share that and add a little sunshine to your already sunny day. lol
Tony, yes my pic is me and thanks for saying such a nice thing.
I have to say, you have done amazingly well in your weight loss - I know exactly where you're coming from.....I was 214 pounds at my highest once so I've been there, it's a lifelong battle........

LOL Well I guess my sudden Oreo fixation over the first month didn't help much (never was much for sweets). Luckily I expected weight gain as the metabolism slows when you quit smoking and food tastes sooo much better. Luckily I was countering it from day one and have also managaed to lose a few pounds. Realizing I could actually breathe, I upgraded my walk to a run three days a week.

Yep expect just about all you can expect from quitting smoking. The good thing is the metabolism slow down is usually temporary for the most part. Now the Oreo fixation is a different matter!

Maybe this oreo thing has legs, maybe a possible side effect. I have eaten like 3 boxes of oreos a week since i started vaping in early July.

And according to lab reports on rats they noticed a weight gain in the rats that were exposed to PG. Will look for the report and post link soon

EDIT: Can't find the report maybe i just invented it in my head.

I've gained (up & down) 10 lbs. since April, when I quit analogs completely.... maybe a pound or 2 of actual fat, but yes, it happens repeatedly, all times of month (I'm female), so it's not hormonal. Have been experimenting with different equipment, different suppliers, different juice and juice mixtures. Trying to pinpoint the water weight gain. Definitely water weight, at times my hands and feet blow up like balloons, no kidding, and I notice a 5-8 lb. gain on the scale each time which disappears with a different day/ fluid/ equipment mix. Sigh....

Really need to pinpoint it though, I'll never go back to the butts.

Same here but more like 20lbs with the balloons. Scary! I went to the doc, had a physical, stress test, etc. All clear. Yeah right. I gave up all flavoring I'm only vaping unflavored w/PG now and trying to avoid sitting at the computer all day reading these forums and fiddling with the vaping stuff, which I think is most of the problem.

Thanks for all the comments. TonyRat, you are right about the sugar - in me it sets up a craving for more sugar. I'm going to try some juices that are not so sweet and see if that helps. I will exercise more and quit sitting on my ...., too.

Superstar, I didn't know Andy Hallet died. That's so sad. I'm a big fan of all the Buffy and Angel stuff. I saw James Marsters (Spike) on a movie, Moonshot, the other day. He still looks great.

First off, thanks everyone for the great comments, and encouragement. I've been finding this forum to be the BEST forum I've ever frequented... granted most others were techie places where BICKERING was common over who's what is better, lol... but here, it seems to be all about supporting one another on the road to better health... even if it is just for the great vapes ;).

There were some questions, comments, that I'd like to address...

Wow Tonyrat. Good for you. What is your goal weight and what is your plan for staying there?

I actually don't have a target WEIGHT per se... more of a target CONDITION. Given that I started at 410, loose skin will be a certainty, and some have theorized that very low body fat forces skin to restore to its former elasticity. (Something about more efficient callogen production?) So, my goal, if possible is 5% body fat which is INSANE, I know, but totally worth a try. As far as keeping it off... simple... (1) keep avoiding the sugar addiction... no more sodas (not even diet, just to avoid temptation), no more cookies, no more cake, no more candy... I can get necessary carbs in much less dangerous ways... and (2) keep up the excercise program indefinitely... good low-impact aerobics and weight training. I imagine once I get to an "ideal form", it'll be a matter of careful analysis and tracking to make sure I stabilize... I've been monitoring everything with a spreadsheet week to week, and have this AMAZING scale that tells me all kinds of neat stuff (including body fat %), and that gives me enough raw data to see the impact of what I've been doing... it's all about the science... and a new way of living.

Yes, I imagine it will be... which is why I'm so adamant about remaining vigilant even after the "weight loss" is "over"... it's just a whole new thing, just liking moving from smoking to vaping... a change with no desire to go back to the way things were. A lot of strong parallels there!!

Tonyrat,

What you are doing is simply amazing! You are your own success story for others to follow. Keep up the good work. And please do continue to post more about your future successes in your road to victory!

You should start a blog. I'd definitely read them and so would many others.

Thank you SO much... I do have a personal site, with blog capability, but it's got no real entries... I may just have to start filling it in, but WHAT kind of stuff exactly would you guys like to see on there? Just weekly progress? Or more personal stuff, like how I have to breath through the mouth when I walk through the food court at the mall. (I can NOT be around great smelling food... not yet anyhow... lol. That may take more time.)

Oooh sweetie, I'm really skinny and I'm pretty sure that even I have more than 5% body fat. I haven't ever had that tested, but I have seen people who have claimed to have 5% and I know that I have more than they do. Don't try to go overboard with that stuff, please!

If you are trying to do something drastic, please check with a doctor or personal trainer often! Don't do this by yourself, since I hear that it can lead to additional problems if you don't make sure to be monitored. There is nothing wrong with a fella with some weight on him. Being too thin can lead to problems as well. And unless you are planning on packing on a ton of muscles, know that us ladies to not like stick figure guys, we want a manly man! :) (No offense to the skinny guys out there!)

Thanks for all the great comments. My eating stuff/issues are so skewed it was hard to tell whether I was eating normally or not. Writing stuff down helps a lot. I WAS eating more. I seem to have settled down a little as far as being revenously hungry. I got a bunch of flavors now and that is fun so keeps me occupied. Maybe it was part of the nicotine withdrawal that I had weird cravings and couldn't feel satisfied. I feel more normal, now.

Super Tonyrat! One of the reasons I started vaping was because the analogs were finally showing measurable results on my lung capacity although the VA tells me they're fine. Put my mt bike back on the trainer and started the cardio again. Slow going now but endurance will improve.

To the others, every time I quit analogs for longer than 3 mos., I gained 12# as sure as the sun rose. Even monitored my food intake at one time and...12#. Messes with your metabolism somehow's my guess.

Superstargoddess... thanks for the word of caution... this is not something I'm doing lightly or haphazardly though... I put a ton of research into this process, so not to worry now!! :D

Oooh sweetie, I'm really skinny and I'm pretty sure that even I have more than 5% body fat. I haven't ever had that tested, but I have seen people who have claimed to have 5% and I know that I have more than they do. Don't try to go overboard with that stuff, please!

You probably do have more than 5%... 5% is insanely low. The "ideal" male physique has about 15% body fat. For women, it's 25%, and that looks awesome on most women... 5% is more in the category of bodybuilders... I'm not thinking I'd STAY at 5% necessarily (unless I really looked and felt fantastic), but just for the purpose of avoiding the knife in the loose skin department... if it works, great, if not (or if for some reason I can't get below 10-15%) then that's fine too... I'd have to get the surgery then (else suffer bedsores, ouch!), but I'd be very healthy anywhere below 20%... the ultimate goal is a return to my previous form, maybe a little better ;)

If you are trying to do something drastic...

Losing this much weight is ALWAYS drastic, lol.

..., please check with a doctor or personal trainer often!

That's a given, and I'd recommend supervision and a TON of education about the process to ANYONE losing ANY amount of weight that's serious about it... fad diets are always a really bad thing for people, in spite of the temporary ego boost.

Don't do this by yourself, since I hear that it can lead to additional problems if you don't make sure to be monitored.

The problems arise from people losing weight the wrong way. For example, a guy gains 30 lbs and decides he wants to lose it, so he goes on the <insert_favorite_fad_diet_here> diet. He loses 30 lbs, and is happy about that, but he doesn't LOOK the same as he did, and now he's "off" the diet. What happened is that he gained 30 lbs of fat, then lost about 15 lbs of fat and 15 lbs of lean tissues (which is normal for most diets, which range from 40 to 60% efficiency.) Since lean tissues raise the metabolism, all he did was become "lighter", and now with a slower metabolism, so when he returns to his normal eating, he gains more weight... often even more than he was before he went on the diet. This is the "weight loss yo-yo". That's why my goal isn't a target WEIGHT, but a target BODY FAT... one must replace the fat with muscle. For example, last week, I lost another 5 lbs, from 296 to 291. I actually lost 11 lbs of fat and GAINED 6 lbs of muscle, which made for a great week. (Efficiency over 200%!) So, now I'm 5 lbs lighter with a HIGHER metabolism. It's all about the science :)

There is nothing wrong with a fella with some weight on him. Being too thin can lead to problems as well.

I absolutely agree... same for women too...

And unless you are planning on packing on a ton of muscles, know that us ladies to not like stick figure guys, we want a manly man! :) (No offense to the skinny guys out there!)

And that's exactly it... it's the lean tissue that I'm building... in the end, I ought to be pretty buff. Bottom line, if 5% body fat and very muscular, the skin may return to normal, or it won't, we'll see. Either way, it's a great target to shoot for, even if never quite reached.

Just a quick update to those interested... down to 282 for 128 lbs lost so far, and COMPLETELY tobacco free for nearly two weeks now!! Yay Vaping!!

And Superstargoddess, just for you ;-) I went to the doc's again to update them on my progress, and explain vaping... they're really excited, and gave me the thumbs up for weight training, which I've been doing now for a week and a half. Oh, and they said my lungs sounded so much better hehehe... YAY! Blood pressure down (wasn't real high to begin with) to 122/70.
