Alright guys, I'm at a loss here. I just pulled one of my KGO batteries off the charger and threw the other one on the charger. I've been using my Smoktech DCCT 1.5 ohm on both over the last couple days, and up until about one minute before I switched batteries out. The battery that just came off the charger is now just flashing at me when trying to fire the Smoktech DCCT. Went back to the battery I've been using, and it fires just fine. So I thought "Oh no! Is the battery dead on me already?" and tried my Smoktech XXXL DC 1.5 ohm clearo....worked just fine. Tried a Boge 2.0 ohm SC...worked just fine. Went back to the DCCT, the button just flashed at me.

Any ideas here? I'm a bit perplexed.

I have a multimeter and might try measuring the output of the battery, but I don't really have a way to test it with load (unless you guys have a way that doesn't involve buying a piece of equipment).

My multimeter was in the garage and I'm going to let it warm up a bit before I use it...could probably use a fresh battery too, so I'll do that in a bit if it doesn't clear up. Don't know how it got in the garage, but it is what it is.

Anyway, the DCCT still works just fine on the other battery, it's only with this battery that I'm having an issue. How would I test carto ohms with my multimeter? It's a Fluke 73III. Got it from my pops for testing of power supply voltage, but I'm not quite sure how to measure much else.

It probably has an ohm symbol on it (an omega Ω ). That's the setting for testing. It just runs a small current through the load and measures the resistance... so put one probe on the center post, the other on the threads. You probably want to zero the meter 1st by touching the probes together.

Anyway... Does the button flash like that with no carto attached? If so, pull up the center post on the carto with a paper clip GENTLY.

Thanks. OK, so it's not a center post issue (that's the bad news). Now we check the ohm rating of the carto....... If it's too low, it may consider the connection shorted and flash an error. The good news is that the other cartos work, so the battery isn't dead yet. May be flakey tho. Also, clean the threads of the carto. (and the batts too while your at it).

1st guess... bad carto issue. Also, try another (new) DCCT if you have one.

OK, I'm stumped as to why the 1.5 ohm stuff works, but the 1.6-1.8 ish carto won't and it is connecting. Unless the threads are dirty and allowing it to short... IDK what the deal is. Sorry.

The carto isn't fried or the ohms would be different. It isn't too low or the other 1.5 wouldn't work. And it isn't too high either. It's connecting, since the button behaves differently when not connected. So... Let's see if someone else knows this one. Sorry.

Just ran my fingernail through the threads on the end of the carto and gave it another shot...I'll be damned, it worked. I wiped the threads off a handful of times before even posting the first time here, as well as the threads in the battery end...I guess whatever it was was just in there good.

By the way, this was an important enough issue to solve that I stole the 9v battery out of our upstairs smoke alarm since my multimeter's battery was dead :D.
