So I'm new here kinda....I signed up a few years ago and I'm back and getting into purchasing better equip.

So I placed an order online to EVcigarettes.com (sorry if thats not allowed) for about$165. I get an email this morning saying they need to verify my identity and are requesting a copy/photo of aa bill displaying my address and not only that a picture of my ID or DL...WHAT!!!!!

Are you kidding me smells fishy to me for a low dollar amount or any dollar amount for that matter. I've purchased $2500 tv's online and not a peep??

What say you guys?

Is your shipping address on this order different from your billing address?

I recently placed a first order with a very well-known, highly regarded vendor and got a similar email. They wanted me to call them to verify my billing information or email a photo of myself holding and clearly displaying my driver's license and the credit card I used to make the purchase. They said I could black-out or otherwise obstruct the DL # and anything else I didn't want them to see as they only needed to see the picture and address.

I was a little miffed at first but the more I thought about it, the more I appreciated the extra level of security. It was nice to know that if somebody used my CC info to make a purchase and have it shipped somewhere else, the charge would be declined.

I ended up calling them at the phone number in their email (which was the same as on their website) and got a "shipping label created" email almost immediately.

Your business is your business so it's your decision, just wanted to share my positive experience with what may be a similar circumstance.

YMMV

Same here, VaporKings?
I too was miffed at first, but thought of the security issues.

No actually the addy's are the same. I did send a pic of my credit card statement only showing enough to see my address and then they are wanting ID too. I can appreciate extra diligence for security but I'm also paranoid about identity fraud showing such documents digitally. My mom has been screwed big with fraud and it just seems weird to me.

So basically I got the same email as you Scottitude, and I just called and talked to them. The guy seemed on the up and up so I'll likely go for it

There was another site that requested to do the same thing to prove age, but it was on the product page. They also wanted a waiver to be signed in case something happened from misuse. I didn't order from them, since their prices were $40 more than other sites though.

You're right to be skeptical about it. I think that's the difference between the TV compared to vape gear. Not the value, but the age of the person buying. I may be wrong though.

Does the email you received link to the actual vendor's website and/or contact email, or to some other site or email?

I'd call or email the vendor from contact information provided on their website and ask for an explanation.

Personally, I'd go elsewhere, but it's up to you.

Yep, that's it, Vapor Kings. I've been on a meg-spree lately so I couldn't remember and I was too lazy to look for the email.

The next order I placed with separate shipping & billing addresses went through lightning fast without a hitch. I guess it's a "one & done" validation.

It is odd since you say the shipping address is the same as the credit card billing address. Maybe they're just being overly cautious because they've recently gotten a ton of fraudulent orders (I run an online shopping cart - it happens a lot actually) but I still would never give them a photo of my id unless I blocked out everything useful, then what's the point?

I did call them and ended up sending what they asked with all important numbers and such covered up of course. They just wanted to verify I was an actual person and age appropriate. Their prices were right and after talking to them and the link for verification did go to their site I decided to give in.

The gentleman did say they'd had a lot of fraudulent orders and they were covering their ..... It is a 1 time thing..... Annoying yes..... Odd yes. Sounds like at least 1 more place is doing it too, I wouldn't be surprised if others follow

Ive had a reputable dealer ask for my ID once... for ejuice as an age verification. I sent to them... but i would only ever send a picture of one of my ID's

I think its somewhat the future. When someone goes to buy tobacco, they ask for ID. I wont hold it against a vendor to ask for the same as I would be required to show to buy Cigarettes.
