I did call them and ended up sending what they asked with all important numbers and such covered up of course. They just wanted to verify I was an actual person and age appropriate. Their prices were right and after talking to them and the link for verification did go to their site I decided to give in.

The gentleman did say they'd had a lot of fraudulent orders and they were covering their ..... It is a 1 time thing..... Annoying yes..... Odd yes. Sounds like at least 1 more place is doing it too, I wouldn't be surprised if others follow

I suppose we all need to get used to this as more and more states and cities will be passing legislation requiring age verification before online orders can be fulfilled. I know there is some legislation on the table in Texas that will require all vendors to use a third party age verification system (costing $6 per order) before online orders can be accepted by vendors.

I have always just cancelled my order if I have been asked to provide copies or photos of my card.

Be in no doubt that this action is nothing to do with protecting the consumer and everything to do with protecting the vendor - making sure they can show their credit card processor they did everything they could to verify the customer ID so they can get paid.

EVCigarettes and VaporKings are hardly mom & pop vendors.

As more and more vendors adopt effective age verification procedures that require more than clicking a button on the screen, I have to believe even the nay-sayers will get on board.

Personally, I appreciate vendors who demonstrate responsibility by getting in front of the inevitable regulations, online or offline. If you're not 18+ you can't even walk in the door of my local vape shop. Dude could make a mint selling authentics to hundreds of the "clouds, brah" crowd but he runs his business like a business. Props to web stores doing the same thing.

I ran into this once in my airsoft days. Hobbyking (Japan) I think, when I ordered LiPo batteries from overseas. If it's a reputable company selling something that is potentially dangerous if misused (LiPo's can explosively vent like our mechs if mistreated) I can understand wanting to check the age and verify the buyer's ID. Let me stress big companies with at least hundred-thousands of customers on an international level, I wouldn't expect this from some mom&pop store. YMMV.

Since 2000 I've had to do this many times for various reasons and stores online.

I really doubt someone would try to pull an identity theft this way seeing as you have the address where they work to give to the cops.

They could have easily gotten a hiccup from the verification company, a precurser to a new regulation or many other reasons.
