I have a cat and his sense of smell is rather sensitive compared to mine. When I used to smoke analogs he would never come to sit close to me and if by mistake he smelled cigarette smoke he would start running away. Now with vaping not only is he not bothered to sit on my lap while vaping but even if he comes across my exhaled vape he doesn't seem to bother. And it makes me wonder...

One of my friends has a cat that does the same thing. He won't come around analog smoke, but when I'm vaping he is always sticking his head in the cloud of vapor.

Hmmmm... is that salmon e-juice you're vaping? You could try catnip e-juice in an RDA and see what happens...

I noticed that when I came across dogs that wanted to say "hi" they turned their head when I let them sniff the hand that had been holding a cigarette earlier on. I guess that won't happen anymore... I'll see if I can trace that Milk Bone e-juice again, 'cause I certainly ain't gonna try "buttsniff" flavor!

Frickin BRILLIANT idea!!! Not sure I can vape Milk Bone or Salmon, but it would be a blast to see what happens to the cats.

There IS bacon juice.....wonder what the dogs think?

My cats love watching me build coils and don't mind the vapor but I don't feel safe with them being exposed to it. They both love to sit and watch me build coils at 2am just waiting to see if I will let them play with the Kanthal wire again they go crazy over it but I have to be careful with that too poking them in the eye.

PG is very bad for cats.

Should I Worry About Using an E-Cig Around My Cat?

The fact that the issue was detected because PG was put in cats’ food until the 90s should immediately allay some fears. Research has shown that the effect is dose-dependent: in testing, five weeks of feeding cats PG in ordinary cat-food like quantities (1.6 g per kg in body weight) increased the percentage of Heinz bodies to 28, and after three weeks eating higher quantities (8 g per kg) it went up to 92 percent.

For an ordinary cat (weighing around 4 kg), the lower dose used in the study would be 6.4 grams (or around 12 percent of their diet), which is a hell of a lot in comparison to the amounts you could realistically expect a cat to inhale by being in the room with somebody who’s vaping. If you’re mixing e-liquid and allow your cat to literally drink or roll around in your PG (which would require so many omissions of common sense it’s hard to even comprehend), then obviously there would be some cause for concern, but if you’re just using an e-cig there’s very little to worry about.

The best advice is to just exercise some caution about where you blow the vapor, as in, don’t blow it directly into your cat’s face (even if it’s funny), and don’t vape all over their food or water. The aim of the game is to minimize your cat’s exposure, but as long as you avoid these more obvious forms of exposure vaporized PG isn’t anything to be concerned about. Vapers who’ve asked vets whether PG from vaping is anything to worry about have received

Until a study comes out saying PG is safe for a cat to breathe, I wouldn't vape near a cat...

I wouldn't either because I love my 2 cats too much if there is even a remote possibility of something happening but based on what I read it seems highly unlikely they would be effected just by sitting in a room with second hand vaping.

True, but I wouldn't risk it. There have been posts on this forum where cats have mysteriously died. I think a bird also. Maybe some e-juice was left out and they got into it, but I would never take that chance. There have been posts where people have stated they like to blow clouds at their cats... A vet would never know; there have been no studies. The fact that PG has been discontinued in pet food made in the US would make me believe cats shouldn't be exposed to any PG...

hmmmmmm..... bacoooon....

But, seriously, I'm doubting I'd be able to vape that more than once unless I substituted it at breakfast only. To make dogs go crazy, however...

I agree that until some actual data is acquired on how pets can react to the stuff, we should be reasonably careful.
