Hello there, I am a new vaper and I have a question or two about cartomizers. I am just wondering if anyone knows what could be causing a funky taste in the cartomizers I am using. It tastes like wet paper after maybe a days worth of use. I am using a 3.7 volt battery with an KR808 D1 connection. I normally use generic cartomizers from www.vaporkings.com but have also noticed this with the ones I got from Smoov. Am I just getting crappy cartomizers or is this an issue that I am gonig to have to deal with if I want to continue using cartomizers? I have done a few google searches on it and haven't found much information on this issue.

well....some people are sensitive to the taste of polyfill in a cartomizer....your results can be a number of things, weather it's your use of generics or the fact that you're vaping low voltage on a KR808.....if i'm not mistaken (and someone please correct me if i'm wrong here, i don't own this kit...) but the smokeless image VOLT uses KR808 (at least i think, i could be very wrong as previously stated, it could very well be 901 threading as well)....you can try some of their cartos if the threading is right...however, again, you may be sensitive to the taste of the polyfill inside cartomizers..

i will state that i love cartos, and vastly prefer them over other juice delivery systems, but i've moved up to 510, where there are more options available...if you jump up to 510, i can highly recommend you go over to ikenvape and grab some of their cartos, as i've never once had issues with them, but that is another thread altogether....i will suggest however to go over to madvapes.com...as they have a very wide selection of cartomizers that fit 808, including some smoke tech cartomizers, and from previous experience i can honestly say are good cartos (at least the 510s are, i can't see why these would not be though)

the only other thing that it could possibly be if you're getting tainted flavor after all this, is to jump over to a 510 connection and get some clearomizers to see if you get better results...either way, as always, YMMV, and good luck

polyfill sensitive person here <-------
Started out with cartos, vaping never felt "right", my mouth was constantly dry like I was sucking on a cotton ball and flavor was really never there. Switched over to a vivi nova and realized that I just couldn't do cartos. I even tried boge and smoketec cartos and just could never get over the bland taste I was getting. I have been using the vivi novas for about a month straight now, decided to fill up one of my carto tanks today and take a vape. There was more flavor than what I remember but still got that cotton ball taste and then lost all my taste afterwards. Lol I guess im just one of the odd ones :)

i wouldn't say you are odd, there are many people that are sensitive to the polyfill flavor...but cotton ball =/= wet paper...i personally love my cartos, and i have a vivi nova, but it generally takes a backseat to my other juice delivery systems...the main issue that the OP is having though is that he's using 808 threading, and you can't use a nova with 808 unless you buy an adapter, and then i don't think the vape would be very good coming from a mini....which is why my first thought is bad cartos....if you get that off a better carto, then yeah, time to upgrade :\

One thing stood out to me besides what is already mentioned- you said after vaping it for a day. Have you been refilling it in that time? If not, it is probably dry. I am not a huge fan of cartos, but keeping them good and juicy helped. (Which was a total PITA cause I was topping them off every 10 minutes, so I changed to clearos.) But with that said, I recently got a Volt kit and I LOVE LOVE LOVE their cartos. The coil is on the bottom, completely separated from the filler, so you don't get the filler taste so much. They are priced well I think. I would suggest giving them a try. :) (Yes, they are 808.) thank you for clarifying that tidegirl, i wasn't sure of the threading, i'd definitely recommend their cartos at this point then to see if you still get that flavor, if not, you may want to try out clearos

Oh yeah, sorry I do top them off frequently. The issue is definately not that they are dry. I have tried some clearos but they just don't seem to have the strong flavor that the cartomizers have. I appreciate the input so far, people. Any more suggestions are completely welcome.

do you happen to know the resistance of the clearos you have? most mini batteries push out anywhere from 3.3-3.7 volts...meaning you'd want a maximum resistance of like 1.8 ohms for your clearos to get the best experience out of them (same goes for your cartos)....i'll post the chart in a second so you can see what i mean.....anyways, are the clearos also an off-brand? because generally clearos give off a stronger flavor for those sensitive to carto filler material....myself, i'm the opposite, and feel that the wicking material used in clearos give less flavor than the cartomizers....everyone is different and you want to try different juice delivery systems that work for you, however, most commonly the issues with juice delivery comes from improper battery voltage meeting improper juice delivery device resistance, which is why i mentioned the chart...generally, most people find the most satisfying vape around 8 watts, to find watts, you need to understand ohm's law, which is voltage squared divided by resistance (V2/ohms)....with a low, fixed voltage device like you have there, you want a low resistance juice delivery system, you can easily find out what the resistance of your devices are by using a multimeter, as well as find out your most common voltage range, and figure out why you're not having a satisfactory vape, to simplify, we have this chart that highlights "sweet spot" areas in green:

hope all that helps and didn't confuse you too much, good luck finding what works for you

Actually, this has been quite helpful. Thanks for the chart! The clearos I tried were around 2.5 ohms which is the same resistance as the cartos I have been using. I like the cartos better, seems like more flavor to me. So I am going to try a lower resistance and see what happens. I ordered some this morning so when I get them, I will post the results.

Ok, so I got some LR Boge cartos and they are fantastic. No wet paper taste and it has been over a day of heavy use. I am happy! Yay! Thanks again for all of the help folks! Now, once I find a job I am saving up for a better vaping kit.

gratz on finding a better carto...a boge should last you at least a week (even the new ones that aren't as good)
