Halo uses 2mm Silica wicks. There are many sellers on ebay and amazon.

I'm looking into this myself, just can't decide on silica or the more expensive braided ekowool. There's also a cotton option.

After some research, it seems people are recommending pre-burning them with a flame/torch before installing.

I wish Halo would start selling their wicks by the foot.

I have the 2mm silica and like you am curious about the ekowool, which one the hollow core or the cotton core? :)

the ekowool is up to you on personal preference etc etc. The biggest problem with the cotton core, is you cant use a torch to clean it.

also a consideration when approaching ekowool, is that it is thicker than regular silica, so you often need to go down a step. For example 1.5mm eko to use in an existing triton coil.

so where would one get such small wicks?

Don't worry about it too much;

most people use cotton.

I never tried for months, then finally one day when one of my silica wicks finally fell apart, I tried cotton and found it alot easier than I expected even with my old eyes and cheap pharmacy glasses.

Evie.. if strictly talking about Tritons, if you are rewicking, I would go with 2mm silica. I just find using cotton in a top mount coil, as the coil wick to easy to burn up. IF you are making your own coils for a Triton, 2mm hollow core ekowool is where I would go, you can go with the cotton core ( i just havent because I dont have any)

I will say this though, if you go with 2mm cotton core you might have to play some seating/cutting games with your coil condom. To get proper flow.

Have you ever replaced the wicks on a Triton coil assembly? I'm not rebuilding the coils, trying to get the closest performance to stock Triton Silica wicks. Do you think I should go 2mm Silica or Braided Hollow Ekowool? Not interested in cotton anything.

Green, closest performance to stock is to use the same matterials they use. They use 2mm silica.

Cut 4 to 5 inch long strip of 2mm silica.

torch it especially the ends, but the whole thing, just to "clean" off the fly poop and impurities. (for this I find ceramic tweezers best, because they dont transfer the heat to your fingers, you can us regular tweezers just be careful of the heat induction creeping up on you)

tight wrap one end with plumbers tape (AKA "Teflon tape" {even if there is no such thing as teflon tape anymore} OR "Thread Seal Tape" OR "PTFE tape") This just makes it easier to 'thread the eye of the needle'.

Once you got your lenght pulled through, trim the other end and give it a quick flick with your torch, just to help the ends from unravelling.

use it.

------

You WILL ruin a few coils as you try to learn to do this.

Thanks. Silica is much cheaper by the foot, that's why I was wondering if Ekowool was worth the price difference.

Although, I do wonder if Halo's wicks are of higher quality as they come ready to go in the coils, and the replacements require a torch-burn for better flavor according to the reviews I've been reading.

For this particular application, no I dont think it is worth it. Because trying to thread Ekowool through an exsisting Triton Coil is going to be a serious Pain in the ..... It has some slightly different size shape thing going to it, than regular silica. For a RBA/RDB then yeah maybe it is worth it to you. While I havent done any testing myself to prove this, I understand the capillary action principles and the difference in design between regular silica and ekowool, so knowing these things, Ekowool will have a greater capillary draw (wicking), so it will pull juice faster and in larger quantities than regular silica. Then you factor in the fact it last longer than regular silica and cotton. Really it all comes down to application and to taste.

Well their stuff i would say is of average quality. You can do a bit better if you get what is known as double twist silica (AKA German Silica).

Basically with silica, be it "regular" or Ekowool, this is the rule of thumb... the more complex the joining of individual strands the better, because this gives it better resiliance it also increases it potential wicking factor. So... the more twisted it is the better, and woven/braided (aka Ekowool) even better longevity and wicking properties.

---

Now just to confuse the issue... with what i know so far, and what i have learned through trial and error. If i was inclined to rebuild a triton coil head totally. I would use 1.5mm hollow core ekowool as the coil wick, and 2mm cotton core ekowool as the feeder wick.
