What am I doing wrong? I just bought my first rebuildable and it puts out more vapor but it doesn't have the flavor of my Protank 2

I just got in my Nemesis Clone/Aga T2 from 101 Vapor a few days ago. So I built it up exactly like the instructions on YouTube using 28 gauge wire and cotton wicks because it's seems the consensus is organic cotton gives the best flavor. It's puts out more vapor, thank my protank 2 even without me drilling out the airhole, but it doesn't have the flavor. I have several different amounts of coils, microcoils and spaced coils, as well as a slightly wider coil then necessary, and I still can't get the good flavor hit. I always make sure there are not hotspots before I put in the wick and give about 10-15 hits initially before allowing myself to sample the flavor, so as to get the cottony taste out after I fill and prime the atty.

Not just that, if I hit the Aga T in quick succession the wick seems like it dries out and gives a burnt taste. The wick looks slightly dark where the coils are but otherwise white. But even when I drip some juice directly on the wick before taking a hit, it still doesn't give quite the flavor as my cheap Protank.

Then there's my GF haha, she tolerated the ecigs I got from GreenSmoke I initially started with and my Protanks, but the AGA T2 is annoying her with the vapor which she says is too much and stinks kinda bad compared with the vapor from the other 2 which smell kinda good.

What am I doing wrong?

The reason I bought a rebuildlable was because I hear the flavor is so much more intense. I'm not really interested in blowing huge clouds though. I ordered a Vamo V5 and Kayfun Lite clone from fasttech 2 weeks ago, so when it gets here, hopefully in less than a month, I'm hoping to be better prepared and have better experience to set them up correctly.

I had a similar issue after rewicking my EVODS. I figured out that I initially threaded too much cotton through the coil... it held the "cotton" flavor, muted the flavor of my juice, and produced little vapor. This could be the cause of your flavor and wicking / burning problem. Keep in mind that cotton will expand when saturated w/ ejuice. I found that threading the cotton through the coil so that it could be pulled through and moved back and forth without having to use a twisting motion (ie. simply pushin and/or pulling, no twisting) was just the right amount; it needs to touch the coil but not be packing too snugly inside. After I got the amount of cotton sorted it took a little time for it to break in and loose the cotton flavor, but both flavor and vapor production improved dramatically. -Best of Luck

I found this to be true also.
And I too had a similar problem but once I improved the airflow things became much more flavorful.

Definitely sounds like you have too much cotton in there. It is not wicking as fast as it should which will cause the dry burnt tasting hits if you do them in succession. This is due to it being choked off by the coils after it gets saturated with juice allowing for it to expand. What is the resistance on your build? It may also be vaporizing the juice too quickly and it cannot keep up. Genesis style attys are a bit of a PITA to learn how to build consistently and efficiently IMO. I ended up just giving up on it and I use Drippers and my Kayfun exclusively on my mechs.

Also make sure that your airhole is aligned right in front of your coil so you get optimal airflow.

I've had a similar experience with dripping. Some flavors come out muted, others that were meh in a kayfun really perked up. The suggestion to dial down your watts to see what you get would be my thoughts as well. And if the gf gripes, maybe go higher in your pg percentage....less vapor, more flavor....just watch out for the increased throat hit.

Thank you. This is exactly what I was doing. I was threading in thick wicks of cotton, so big that I had to keep twisting them in, with the belief that the thicker the wick, the more the flavor. So instead I inserted a wick that wasn't all twisted up that I could almost drop in...and the difference in flavor was immediately apparent. Like you said, my previous wicks were so snug up against the coil that they were burning into the cotton which hindered the flavor of the juice.

Thanks to all who offered advice. Problem solved!

If anyone is still following this thread, I have noticed that it seems to me that lifting the coil to where the bottom sits just above the top of the screw heads has made a dramatic difference in not burning the wick, getting a slightly charred taste, and drying out the wick quickly, than when the coil sits closer to the base. Is this the case? Does having a little more wick below the bottom of the coil help with not drying out the wick quickly?
