I have been experimenting with mixing my own liquids for a couple weeks now, and I seem to be having a difficult time with it. I use the calculator and mix everything exactly. I have used 12-20% flavoring, steeped for a week, or used the hot water method. But all of my liquids do not taste right at all. Notably, the dominant taste I am getting is from the nicotine pg. All of my juices have a very peppery taste to it. I am using TPA flavoring, and extreme vaping nic/pg/vg, mixing around 15-18mg. Am I missing something here?

Could you please clarify this a bit?

What strength nicotine are you starting out with?

Please post a sample recipe with the actual amounts you are mixing.
Ya know...How many drops or ml of each.

Pete

P.S. I use Xtreme vaping for my NIC/PG/VG and when mixed without flavors it is pretty much flavorless.

I have noticed that my nic is very peppery as well. I used void mist for my first order of nic. Not bad nic IMO, but since it is my first purchase of nic im still a noob and I dont even know what I am to expect. I dont find it unpleasant, but I also wonder if there is nic out there that isnt as peppery as this one. I order 24mg from venders and I mix up 24mg and mine always does have a peppery taste when venders I use usually dont.

I have heard some nic has a peppery taste to it, seen it on the threads many times. I (lucky) have never encountered that problem. I'm just guessing but I think it might just be the provider you got it from, hence who they got it from. I would ask your supplier where it comes from and avoid it in the future. I'm hoping it's not Box Elder nic

I am using 36MG nic in PG from Xtreme vaping. I also use their VG base to mix with the nic.

For flavorings, I have tried Root Beer, Black Cherry and Cola mixed, and Belgian Waffle and Maple mixed.

The first batches, I used 12% root beer in a 15ml bottle, 10%cola/5%black cherry in 15ml bottle, and 10%waffle/5%maple in 15ml bottle.

For the base/nic, I was mixing the 36mg pg nic down to 18mg with the vg base/pg flavoring.

I tired 12%, 15%, and 20% flavorings for all 3 of these juices but the pepper taste kept coming through over the other flavors.

Again, TPA for flavoring, and Xtreme Vaping for the PG/VG/NIC.

Hmmm, that is odd. I've done the cherry cola one with the same flavors and nicotine vendor. (I did 25% total flavor level and the Black Cherry at 60% of flavoring and Cola at 40% of flavoring.) I've mixed it up to 40mg and never had a pepper problem, but I did start with 100mg.

So, you are mixing much lower nicotine levels than I usually ever get close to, but getting nicotine taste. That is quite odd.

Have you tried any of the recipes without any nicotine in them to make sure the taste isn't coming from anything else? (Just in case)

You could go up to 15% water to thin the VG, I've used 15% but not higher with no problems.

Also, does your nic solution have any color? I've noticed with nic solution from a couple of vendors, that if the solution isn't kept, at least, cool, it will get a brownish tinge to it and develop the peppery taste.

I couldn't wait, and mixed up some liquid without the nic. It was definitely the nic that had the strong peppery taste. Could this just be a bad batch or more nic than posted? Hard to imagine, considering everything I've heard about xtreme vaping. However, when I did take some hits from the final 18mg liquid, I was getting a huuuge buzz from it. More than usual.

my nic is crystal clear and kept in a tackle box that is inside another cabinet.

I did not realize that, Diablo. Perhaps Pete or Hoosier could tell us, since they both use Xtreme as well?

Well I just checked their site and they don't say. They are in the USA so yes they get their juice from china. It's all made in china, any USA made juice (so called) is just mixed with VG or PG for the final product. I hope they can tell you where it came from and if they ever had problems with it.

The problem being at 18mg there is no way you should be getting a buzz. What I was concerned.

When I first rec'd my bottle of nic (36mg/pg) from XtremeVaping, it had that peppery taste mixed at 18mg. I didn't get any unusual buzz, but the peppery taste was definitely there.
Levy sent me another bottle right away. It was fine, no peppery taste at all in the second bottle.

I tested the first bottle again the other night, the peppery taste is not there anymore. Could this be because air got to it? IDK.

Now I feel I need to send Levy money for the second replacement bottle.

Levy at Xtreme Vaping tests all his nicotine for proper strength so I doubt that is a problem. I have found his NIC/PG/VG to be of the highest quality I've encountered.

Try mixing the nicotine PG and VG base, let it age for a day, and then try vaping it. I did this and found it to be flavorless. This may narrow the problem down to the base or the flavorings.

I use TPA flavorings and find that some of their flavorings sometimes take up to a week to loose that fresh mixed chemical taste.

Make sure you shake your bottles several times a day for the first day or two after adding the ingredients. I have found that helps to shorten the steeping process.
