What am I missing here?

Hey guys, new here and a new diy'er. I have a question on the Strawberries and Cream from the flavor apprentice. I bought a bunch of flavors from them, but i was really hoping to vape a good Strawberries and Cream. I have made two batches now and they both taste like crap. Pretty sure I can only taste the VG and NIC, both 100% from E-Cig Express, also used sweetener from E-Cig. I was trying to follow Fresh's recipe from youtube. I am using a kanger subvod with .5 occ coil, Anyway here are my recipes:

1st try
5ml total
0.3 ml nic (100mg VG)
4.3 ml VG
0.4 ml (25 drops)(10%?) Strawberries and cream

Mixed this up and the juice tasted awesome right out of the bottle, but when I vaped it all I got was a crappy peppery taste, couldn't even suffer through 2ml in my tank.

2nd try
11ml total
0.6 ml nic (100mg VG)
6.4 ml VG
4 ml Strawberries and cream (I know, right?)
10 drops of sweetener

Same result, tastes good out of the bottle, but terrible vaping, not even a hint of strawberries.

I also made the Fruit Circles same way but at 10% and 30%. 10% was almost ok, not much flavor, but the 30% was way better, still a little muted flavor but very vapable. I just made up a word there, lol.

What am I doing wrong with the Strawberries and Cream? Could it be a bad batch? But why would it taste good out of the bottle, but terrible when vaping?

Also, do i need to steep a one note mix?

Thanks for all the help in advance guys, I am desperately trying to take in all this information as I am new to the vape world, but I quit my 6-7 a day cigar habbit for the last 2 weeks now, and my wife and I are very happy about that!

Is he now selling his recipe as a single flavoring? All of his recipes I have seen are composed of many different flavorings.

Try vaping your nicotine with out flavoring. Some nicotine base has a "peppery" taste.

Are you using a mixing calculator?
How are you measuring and dispensing .3ml of nic base?

I have TRIED to get a nice mix with the TPA Straw/creme concentrate, but I have had better luck with Straw Ripe 7% and DX sweet creme 1%-2% with some VBIC 2%-3% (Van bean I-cream) for depth. Speed steep or 10 days...
Much nicer IMO.

Yes. I would Highly Suggest that you Taste Test a New Recipe when you mix it. Then put the Mix in a Cool, Dark Place for 3 ~ 5 Days and then Re-Taste it.

Also... You said that your 1st Mix had a Crappy, Peppery Taste. What does your Nicotine Base taste like when you Dilute it down to a Vapable mg/ml Level?

I was actually wrong as I watched again, he was doing the fruit circles and berry crunch as single flavoring. The S&C was more complex as I watched it again too, thanks for the reply, I will try the the plain base before adding flavor on my next mix and see what I get. Thanks for the help

Please double check your measurements.
In a 5 ml batch, .3ml of base (@10%) could be as few as 5 and as many as 9 DROPS.
I would suggest premixing 100ml of 1.0%, (10ml base/90ml dilutant) to use in recipes.
Confirm drops per ml and if you have an accurate scale, confirm the weight of 1 ml of each of your dilutants.
Strive for consistency and take copious notes.
I use the EJMU as my calc. (yeah notes section!)

The pepperiness is likely your nic. You using MyFreedomSmokes nic, Wizardlabs? Try Nude Nicotine, Vaperstek...my DIY was literally unvapable before I made that switch. MFS nicotine makes me want to vomit (no really--when I tried it unflavored, I was gagging, it is horrible)

Got a fresh gallon of VG last night and cracked a brand new bottle of MFS base that had been sealed in my freezer for about a year to mix up some base. Smelled clean when I uncapped the bottle but once it got near room temp it smelled horrid. Diluted a bit down to test it and it was just awful. 500ml nic base down the drain.
Luckily it was my last MFS bottle and I've moved on to some vapers tek nic, which is nice and clean with no smell.
I bought from MFS for quite some time but unfortunately their product has been too inconsistent for my liking and I have moved on.

Sorry to hear that you had to Pour Out that Nicotine Base.

But think of it this way. Better to Find Out Now verses 6 Months into a Regulated Market where buying Nicotine Base might be Difficult. Or Not Even Possible.

Eh, thanks, but it is what it is. I stocked up starting about 3 years ago and I probably still have enough left to last 10 years. Overkill, I know.
At any rate, I'm past the MFS bottles now and the future looks good!
