If it is still tobacco, I would call and clarify with them SJeane, if it is Nicotine, unless you vape 0mg, it is nicotine... and if you vape 0 nic I would still call and clarify.

If it says tobacco now, doesnt mean it wont change to Nicotine soon, and if vaping 0mg nic is okay now, then they decide its not later... well... idk, my stand point is, it may cost you more to be honest and straightforward with em, but if it doesnt, if say they (at this time) decide you are good and later change their minds, at least when they come to you upset (possibly not saying its going to happen) you can tell them to check their recorded phone records, and that you had already informed them...

just my :2c:

i prefer any call center that records my calls... can make me a huge pain in their ends later if something goes awry...

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this? Is it considered tobacco use by most companies? Do any of you just put no for tobacco use? Thanks for any info!

They don't test for nicotine, they test for "Cotinine"... which is what you need to read up on and adjust your habits accordingly to pass the test as a "non-smoker".

Here's a place to start... but there are tons of Google links about cotinine and testing for insurance purposes.

Sometimes I think that family history is more indicative than present habits in determining future health care costs. But, that wouldn't fly with the group plans. Speaking of group plans, why not just absorb all the costs and average the premiums to pay them? After all, you are paying for the guy who goes home and drinks a 12 pack of beer or too much whiskey every night while they charge you more for your vaping habit. You are also paying into the plan for the guys who go trail riding and hunting on the weekends while consuming mass quantities of junk food and beer in the woods and carry 30-06's.

Maybe those with elevated cholesterol should be screened and rated as high risk.

It's not really fair to consider a vaper a significant health risk if all other measures of health are equal. My first and only hospitalization was for appendicitis late in life and I was out in 24 hours thanks to Laparoscopic surgery and the outpatient program.

Give it time; they'll get around to it as soon as they think they can get away with it.

This year, the forms I filled out asked about tobacco and specifically listed pipes, cigarettes, cigars, and smokeless tobacco, and no mention was given to either nicotine or e-cigs. While I did state that I had used some of those products on a regular basis within the last two years (per the next question on the form), I listed myself as a non-tobacco user.

IMHO most places of business like to subscribe to the letter of the written policy. Regardless of the situation or extenuating circumstances if the letter of the HR policies dictates a specific behavioral response they, meaning managers, adhere to is as if it were written with the finger of a divine entity. Therefore, when asked if I use nicotine I respond no as none of the juice I vape has any nicotine in it at all.
