What are the best and safe practices?

Hi, I've got some questions.

When dripping directly onto an atomiser is it better to use a used cartridge or a blank cartridge/mouthpiece that contains no foam (I'm using iCIG http://www.electroniccigaretteinfo.co.uk/)?

Are there any safety issues when using old cartridges (especially when dripping) that the foam can dry out and emit nasty fumes due to overheating?

Does the foam in a cartridge also act as a filter, or is it just there to absorb the e-liquid?

Is it better to drip directly onto the atomiser or refill a used cartridge? What are the best and safest methods?

What cheap kits and e-liquids do you recommend that are healthy and tasty!

Can I use e-liquids with any brand of electronic cigarettes? I mean can I buy from one brand and use with a different one?

Where can I find books or video tutorials where I can learn about best and safe practices?

Many thanks!

Michael

If you're dripping use a blank cartridge (no filler), or buy a drip tip which makes it easier to drip.

There's not really any safety issue, but the filler will pack down a bit and not make contact with the bridge in the atomizer which causes liquid to not wick out of the cartridge properly.

Does the foam in a cartridge also act as a filter, or is it just there to absorb the e-liquid?
The foam is just there to hold the liquid.

Some people like to use cartridges, others like to drip. Either is safe. Most vetran vapers tend to drip because cartridges can be a pain at times.

Are e-liquids healthy? We don't know yet, but they all use the same ingredients so they're probably all equal in terms of safety.

Can I use e-liquids with any brand of electronic cigarettes? I mean can I buy from one brand and use with a different one?
Brand doesn't matter, just find a vendor that carries flavors you like. Some e-cigs are not as easily refilled, but if you stick to those recommended here on ECF you should have no problem.

There's lots of videos on YouTube, just do a search and you'll turn up tons of them.

Many thanks!

Hi Riverside,
I've only been at this for about 45 days but I'll try a couple answers here:

Using a straight through Drip Tip doesn't require another mouthpiece.

I look at my tips like an ink pen, sometimes I bite the cap to remove or tap my teeth (probably from the hand to mouth habit that comes from years of smoking) I don't wash the pens unless they get something on them other than my mouth. Personal preference. Although, I have washed my carts in alcohol when cleaning the polyfil though.

The foam/polyfil is a wick - check out the tips and tricks forum Highping has a great process for polyfil.

Refill - personal choice. I drip and use a syringe depending on the cartridge. See youtube videos.

$40.00 for a starter kit is obtainable at many places. See Supplier Review forum.

E=liquids are universal. I've seen two base ingredients PG and VG.

See New Members Forum (it covers every question you listed by people who have been at this longer than me. Get your favorite drink and be prepared to sit a spell due to all the information in this info goldmine.

Cheers

Thanks guys. I've been using the UK iCIG but I've decided to give the joye 510 a try since the parts are way cheaper + the reviews seem fine. It was kind of frustrating that the iCIG came with so little information and I don't expect the joye to be any different. It just seems that the only way to get knowledgeable is trial and error which I imagine can get expensive. I've only seen one ebook on amazon which I was unable to buy due to some error with their website. And I don't think being in the UK helps since so few people are vaping. Around where I live I'm the only person I've seen vaping ... occasionally I get the odd look when vaping in public! Mind you I live in the countryside.. in cities it may be different.
