I am really starting to think that vaping may be doing more harm to my lungs then good. I can't really inhale anything without it triggering coughing. It's a shame. I really wanted to beleive that vaping was going to successfully work for me. At first it worked great, then as time went on it was becoming harder and harder to inhale the vapor.

This is where vaping gets extremely frustrating. There is so much protection on the side of vaping that no one wants anyone to really study to see what the actual effects are to your lungs.

I didn't have these kind of coughing issues until I started vaping.

Or maybe I'm just dying of lung cancer, meh.

How long did you smoke and long have you not had a smoke? I coughed like crazy for awhile a month or two afterwards.. Spit up nastiness. Figured it was the tar coming out of my body.

Could also been southwest ohio's allergies. They are killing me at the moment.

I am sorry if I am sounding pi$$y, but I have spent wat too much money for this not to work. It just drives me nuts that there is not solid information on what this stuff can or cannot do to your lungs.

I'm sorry to hear of your troubles, and can understand your concerns, but getting angry won't help ya much.

The choice is to attempt to find something that works for you, or give up completely. I assure you smoking cigs won't be more healthy for your lungs.

It seems very unusual that you were able to vape without issue for some time, then only recently developed what seems to be an intolerance to the vapor.

Have you changed juices/mixes/manufacturers recently?

Have you modified your setup/delivery device in any way?

Have you run tests to see if your lungs are more sensitive to VG or PG?

I saw a video of a guy online(I'll try to find the link) who hand a chest xray when he started vapeing and them had another one years later, and there was clear difference that his lungs did look much better. So it's probably your body getting rid of the congestion that has built up over the years. When would stop smoking cold turkey I would cough a lot of nastiness, with vapeing it's been not so bad. For me it probably has to do with the nicotine I'm getting You know what they say "The nicotine kills the pain of the tar"
Funny thing though I vape WAY more than I was smoking I vape about as much as I smoked when I was 30.

Go see a doctor.

He is right, sometimes when I take too big of a hit I cough.
It does dry us out from what everyone says. When I cough I
take small hits instead of the niclong drags to get that throat hit.
Your body starts to heal, we are going to cough stuff up.
People who quit smoking in the beginning start having stuff
come up. Our bodies are starting to heal.
Its coming up on 3 mos for me.
I would be great to hear from the eteran vapers and their experiences after long term vaping

I started with a 'Menthol Tobacco' juice that was awesome for the first week of quitting the stinkies. As my second week drew on, I started coughing and hacking....assuming that it was just from quitting, I vaped on. Week 3, every tiny hit that I inhaled was like being kicked in the chest. I switched juice manufacturers and have not experienced anything of the sort since.

Yep. Coughing after vaping for a while definitely happened with me. I have always vaped 100%PG juices. Make my own juices from organic stuff only. Been vaping 3 years.

First round of coughing up the nastiness started about 5 days after I quit the stinkies and would happen on and off for the next month. Then the cough went away. A couple months later the cough came back, lasted a couple weeks, and disappeared again. That was the last round of significant coughing I had. I *think* it is just our bodies way of purging the toxic crap built up from years of smoking. I noticed the color of what I was coughing up was brownish tinged....definitely some cigarette residual junk.

PG does dry you out. Drink lots of water and one thing I did was take Mucinex. It will dry you out too so lots of water is a must. The Mucinex helped me break up the deep down lung cookies and get rid of the junk. Smoking does a number on the lungs. You are in the healing process. If you are overly concerned, by all means see a doctor.

No one has asked so far - and you haven't told us either - what are you doing and how are you doing it?

What's the PG/VG ratio of your liquids? The more PG the harsher the liquids can get. Some folks don't like or can't tolerate the harshness of high PG liquids.

Are you lung inhaling like you did when you smoked? It's not necessary, since the nic from vaping gets absorbed via the mucous linings in your oral cavity. And lung inhaling typically sends vapers new to this into hacking fits. It's a case of insult to injury if you recently quit smoking. Try the "vape like a cigar" method until you can do lung inhalation - if you want to. And look into trying a liquid lower in PG. After two years I seldom lung inhale - just doesn't add anything to the experience for me. (And I used to be a DEEP lung inhaler when I smoked.)

It's also been "tree pollen from hell" week around here too. Even with my allergy meds I've been coughing this last week. In my case it doesn't have anything to do with vaping...

I'm also curious what ratio pg/vg you're using. Also what type of device & what's your nicotine level you're using?

As far as allergies, often allergy symptoms come with things like a rash or itching so if you are experiencing itching somewhere when you vape it could be an allergy. There is not always itchiness with an allergy though. But for sure what you will notice is an increase in whatever symptom you DO experience when vaping.

I do not have an "allergy" per se to VG. However I do have sinus issues & using juice with even 50% VG causes too much of a mucus build up for me & my throat really starts to hurt within a few hours. So I keep the VG under 30%.

Sometimes though I do experience coughing if my sinuses are really irritated. So if you experience seasonal allergies or things like this it might cause coughing when you're vaping.

Then of course, there is also the business of purging your body of the chemicals you got from smoking. While that is happening your body will definitely have some reactions & some coughing could be a possibility.
