One of my vaping peeves is getting a nice new piece of equipment that I'm really excited about and think is really cool and posting about it...only to have a gaggle of vaping snobs and elitists come along and "one up" me by posting insanely expensive stuff with elaborate finishes and Penelopes or Caravelles (or whatever those dang things are) and just totally STOMP on my little bit of happiness and pride. I"m disabled and on a (pathetically low) fixed income, and I know exactly what sort of thing I need and want...and what I can afford. No...the telescope mod isn't going to shock and awe this crowd....but it's something I am pretty stoked about. It's as exciting to me as a Provari might be to someone with more disposable income than I have...and I'd like to feel my little moment of happy glow.

That sort of thing really ticks me off! Sorry!

Well articulated point. I can definitely understand where you're coming from :thumb:

I hear ya. I was in seventh heaven when I bought my first X2 and put a clearo on it. In fact I'm still in seventh heaven vaping an X2 with a clearo.

I'd say one of my peeves is the same as yours.

From what I've seen the telescope is a good mod. Being able to use the different batt sizes is a plus for sure. And being mechanical is a bonus I think.

Yeah, I know that. You're just preaching John. It's getting old. I didn't even reply to you on that post.

This is a forum for exchanging views and ideas. It's not your job to regulate what's said here; there are moderators for that.

And it's pretty common, and generally accepted, for people to quote others, even if a particular comment was directed specifically at them.

You call it "preaching", I call it encouraging others to use common sense as an effective weapon in the War on Cigarettes.

I wasn't "regulating" anything. I just pointed out you were preaching. My original point was what helped me quit cigs. And that is a marvellous thing, and something to celebrate. That's also my personal experience, and its important to me that it is treated respectfully. Let's just leave it there.

Let's not, and say we did.

Pet peeve: All-too-frequent, and IMO unwarranted, and certainly unwelcome criticism of not so much what I say, but that I say it at all, or to what level of detail, or with what frequency.

I do of course agree that quitting cigarettes is a marvelous thing, and indeed, something to celebrate, which is why I post here at all.

I still call it my cigarette cause i have my self convinced that i'm still smoking the stinkies, just healthier ones.

I was going out for a break at work the other day and said to some-one "I'm just going for my smoke" And then I stopped and said "no, not a cigarette" because they looked at me like - have you started smoking again? The people I work with call it my puffer.

Actually, I like calling it that.

If the cig a likes didn't exist I wouldn't have started vaping. By cig a like I mean it looked like one as well as being about the same size. That was totally where my psychology was at. I quit 50 a day cigs. I would never have started with a mod - just no way I would have.

And that's awesome. Honestly, I was probably the same way. Really……I should clarify that it's a pet peeve that they exist in their current form. I can't count the number of people who tried my 901, laughed, and kept smoking. I owe them my first cigarette free day, but they would not have worked for me long term……and there are a lot of people that they'll turn off vaping entirely because they suck so badly.

Recent conversation:

me: "Trust me. This is way better than the POS you tried before."
them: "Yeah…but that other thing worked for you, and it sucked. There's no reason to try this one."
me: "but, but………"

If they just had half-decent batteries and could run LR cartos, they'd be a great stepping stone. As they are……you, like me, got off cigarettes with them………but they were (and are) still garbage.

And they're freaking expensive for how terrible they are unless you're lucky enough to find altsmoke. Even then, you can buy a pair of twists/spinners, a pair of vivi novas, chargers, extra heads, and juice for the cost of just batteries that last as long.

Really, I just wish they didn't suck. I hate to think of how many people have given up on vaping because they perform so terribly. I did the first time I tried it. After three years of more smoking, I credit the 901s with giving me my first smoke-free day, but really all they did was not disappoint me too terribly while I did research……and I wound up dripping with that little cig-a-like because nothing else I tried was even half decent.

I hate and find it so confusing that a certain item has three or four names. Makes it difficult trying to find what you are looking for. There's the original one and then all the knock offs that follow under a different name...grrrrr

Agreed.

There are a lot that do suck - I agree with you on that. The first one I tried was tiny and horrendously expensive. $32 for 5 cartos, proprietary threaded. When I say tiny I mean really tiny. Half an hour and had to recharge it. The second I tried worked well for me but was too expensive - $22 for 5 cartos, proprietary threaded. I stayed off smokes with both tho.
The third cig size I tried was awesome, 808, good price, refillable cartos. Gives good vape, TH, looks nice.

There are some good ones, but I agree, there's some rubbish stuff to be avoided.

ETA; Actually, I think I should say, there's some rubbish stuff that initially can keep some-one off cigs, but look around and get something better if you know it's not going to do it long term. A friend of mine is currently vaping one of my "rubbish" ecigs until she gets her own. She likes it. I think she might want to stay with it...

You think noobs are laughing at those mini cigs, try handing them a Twist with a Nova on top. They don't know whether to puff on it or try to reproduce with it. The big cigs scare off more people than the mini cigs.

I've gotten at least ten people off of cigarettes so far with Twists and Vivi Novas, and they all knew to puff on it, and not try to have sex with it.

(In fairness, I cannot vouch for their conduct after they left).

A noob has only two issues/concerns when they are contemplating vaping. One, what in the hell does vapor feel like/taste like going down my throat? Two, am I going to look dopey with this thing? A mini cig addresses both of those concerns the best. Any other concerns do not exist in the new vapers mind. Constant voltage, variable voltage, pulse modulation...none of that is even in his/her solar system when they are contemplating vaping.

Well lucky for them you nursed them along the whole way. If only everyone had that option.
