That it's why I wrote the free Android app "Vaper's Toolbox". It will figure out how much wire to use for both Kanthal and Nichrome.

That was you? I love you.

Please do not use anything except Kanthal (I prefer A1 but other grades will work fine) or Nichrome for your atomizer.

Something like guitar wire is either steel or, if you're really classy, silver. :) It's low resistance wire, and not made for atomizers. The coating to preserve the wire is unknown, and regardless of that when you wind a coil you'll be making a sub-ohm coil whether you want to or not!

While there are other resistance wires, Kanthal and Nichrome are proven. Some dislike the idea of chromium wire and use only Kanthal, but I don't think anybody's ever found any leaching chromium in a dangerous form from Nichrome.

Kanthal is quite cheap in hundred foot sections on Amazon or eBay.

Please note that I'm an old fuddy-duddy that still likes the old-fashioned micro-coils that we used to use back in the day. You know, 2013?

Cool! I have no objection at any point. He's not sub-ohming it, just making an absolutely enormous coil out of Kanthal. I can't imagine how much liquid that thing goes through a day, but I did love the little wisp of vapor that clung to his beard around the 10 minute mark.

I'm boring, I build 2.0-2.2 ohm coils out of 32 gauge Kanthal A1. Rain does not patter gently from my clouds, they're more of a light ground fog, really!

Seriously? There are several B&M's in/around Jax. Call 'em. Start with the closest and work your way out. I'd be real surprised if none of them have any. Oh sure, you'll probably pay $1/ft, but that's just do to poor planning on your part. :D

I buy 100' spools off Amazon for like $7 each with free shipping from Amazon. It takes a few days to get, but hey...

I know most of the stores here will build for me, but when I've asked if I can purchase any, they've either been out of stock, or just flat out won't. There's a lot here, sure, but most of them are unwilling to sell what they are using.

I'm just gonna go the ordering route. I don't know why I don't like ordering online; everything is cheaper! I just hate the wait lol

I hear you. Between the waiting and the mailman stalking (my mailman's name is Dale and we now know each other fairly well) it does get a bit annoying.

The Kanthal everybody's recommended really does deliver very fast, I had it the same week I ordered it. It took me longer to figure out the ins and outs of building coils than it did to get the stuff.

/bow. I am glad it has helped you.

Most definitely!

Oh, I've played with crazy coils just for fun, but I really like what I've been able to do with microcoils.

Give Temco or Lightning Vapes a shot. It'll be in your mailbox in a few days.

Temco I order straight from their website (TEMCo Industrial Power Supply) and Lightning Vapes I go through their Amazon storefront, although I think you can order straight from their website with PayPal.

Use it almost everyday. It's nice to not have to use formulas in my head at all with coils... I don't wrap coils all the time...I can play around with numbers though.

Lol I use it to build theoretical coils more than real ones myself. Every time I get to thinking about using a different coil (resistance, diameter, or number of wraps, etc) and I just open the app and check out what it would take. I also use it a lot to calculate power and voltages.

I know you hate the wait, but just think, if you buy a couple 100ft rolls of Kanthal online once the initial wait is over you will have enough to last you several YEARS!

I bought mine on Amazon and sure waiting for it to arrive sucks, but now I have more kanthal than I'll probably ever use!

OT can you recommend an emulator for windows 8 for Android? I tried Genymotion through virtualbox with mixed results.

I use the one that comes with the Android SDK, it kind of sucks, is slow but it gets the job done. Of course this is on an older single core Win XP box. So a new quad+ core Win8 box might be better.

That coil looks a beauty!!!!!!!! oo00oo
Lots of metal surface area to contact; must vape like a beast! What resistance is that one I wonder?----

edit: 1.2 ohm
I must be missing something; howd the resistance ennd up so low?
